Hey, GraphiteDak! I'm headed out to Prescott the day after Labor Day for a week-long Navy ship's reunion. I know you live around Phoenix, and since you hit the trails, figure you probably know what the "must see's" are in Northern AZ?

I am not sure how I missed this post.

Good thing it wasn't a SNAKE!!!

If you are in the Prescott area. I'd hit the road to Crown King for sure!

Well, I'd go the back way and play in the hills. Last time I checked the road from Lake PLeasant to Crown King was pretty washed out. It's a Jeep trail.

To just ride around on some dirt roads and trails you can come in from Prescott side I believe or from I17. That's the way I came in.

If you go there is a Family owned cafe/resteraunt at the top of a hill. You will know it because he has lots of antique Mining Equipment at the place he tinkers with.

You MUST eat there. Great food, home made bread for the sandwiches, etc.

Now when you say trails, are you talking for a 4X4 Dakota? Or for an ATV?

Another fun place I have made some of the videos at is on the back side of Lake Pleasant.

I haven't been out there this year, so I don't know how things are as the water raises and lowers at times.

You would take I17 south just south of Black Canyon City.

There's a turnoff named "Table Mesa Road.
I think Table Mesa Rd actually refers to the road going EAST of I17, but we take the road on that exit going WEST and you follow the MAIN dirt road about 5 miles and you will come to the back side of Lake Pleasant.

On the way you will find a few trails you MAY be able to take the Dakota on, and many more for an ATV.

Hey, Graphite! Sorry, I've been offline all week. Actually, I flew out to Phoenix and took a rental car up to Prescott (why do they pronounce it "preskit"?).

I've been with a group of old sailors all week, and for the most part, it's been pretty sedate. Bus tour up to the North Rim, another one yesterday to Sedona ($$$) - got free today, and just rode out into the country to see what was there. Ran across some Pronghorn north of here about 10-15 miles, and some Javelina a little farther north. Really pretty country!!

One of the guys lives here, and says that he goes to Crown King with his ATV fairly often.

Thanks for the reply!

No problem.

Isn't it crazy how Phoenix is some dead desert looking place, yet you go up North 1 to 2 hours and it looks like Colorado??!!!!

Are you going to be in town Saturday?
Going to hang out at the Races tomorrow night after 9PM

That's in North Surprise, Grand Ave just north of the 303 freeway.

$20 to race, $10 to watch usually.

I'd like to see how mine does after I removed the heavy truck box. And my bro in law's 318 is running good since we replaced injectors and map sensor last night. He's getting 8PSI right now. I was beating him, now he's goona smear me so bad I may want a turbo sooner than later! :p

Well, the 9th we were still in Prescott, and then the following Saturday we were home in NC.

They also had an old car show in downtown Prescott on the 9th that we were able to wander thru – free! Some of those things were real beauties, and a couple of them had price tags on them – one for $79,500. The guy said if it didn’t sell that weekend, he was taking it to Barrett-Jackson.

When the reunion ended, we said our goodbyes and took off on another road trip from Prescott to Vegas where we spent 4 days and actually won. I took $1600 out of a penny slot, and 2 $1 slots in a 2-hour period Tuesday night. Back on the road again Wednesday, from Vegas back to Phoenix, down highway 93. Beautiful drive! I was frankly amazed at the variation in Arizona scenery and flora. I never realized that the Saguaro cactus grows only in southern Arizona, and no where else. So all those John Wayne movies that purportedly were in Texas were really filmed in Arizona!

If you haven’t done the road trip up to Vegas and back (up I-17, I-40 and 93 and back down 93 and 60 all the way to Phoenix) you gotta do it. I filled up a 2GB chip in my camera, and had to start deleting those "less than perfect" shots. One of those shots is of a 1934 Dodge pickup that I'll try to get posted on here. It was Cherry!

That's cool dude.

I've lived here since 1980 and still haven't seen everything.

I didn't even see the Grand Canyon until like 5 years ago!

Arizona does have a vast variety of climates.

I can drive 1/5 hours north and be FREEZING my butt off at night right now! Yet it was high 90's down in Phx today!
