The basic function of the two is to change the fuel and timing maps to give you a little more power and maybe a little more economy. As for the basic curve, they are both so close that it really doesn't matter. They are both very easy to use.

The both have differant features. Superchips seems to have more overall capabilities - like tire size, rear end gear, etc . But you pay more for that.

You need to decide if those added features are something you need. If so, pay the bux. I don't need them, so I went with the Hypertech. More power, and better fuel economy, especially when towing.

I've got a Hypertech on my '98 2wd cc.
You can change the top speed limiter, tire size, and rev limiter.
As well as the obvious power tuning. There is an 87 octane, and 93 octane power tune.
Either one will get you snappier throttle response from a dead stop, and it will require less pedal to cruise at a constant rpm.
I also got 1.5 / 2 mpg better mileage.

I also have a K&N fipk and a 180 degree thermostat.
My complaint is that it pings when using 91 octane fuel, even with the 87 octane power map.
Hypertech told me it was because of the cold air intake was making it run too lean, and the powertuner was designed for stock everything.

I now just use it to set my tire size to get the speedometer to read right on the money !

Could your pinging be the dreaded "belly pan gasket failure" that is causing your engine to run lean? My buddy's 2000 R/T pings horribly on the SC 91 tune, but the 87 tune (which removes the deathflash) doesn't ping on 91 gas. So he's lucky, too bad your truck isn't so cooperative. Just a thought...

What's your left foot doing?

I replaced The bellypan with the Hughes 1/4" thick one. I hope that's not it :)
