Subject: using 5w-30 syn. oil in 5spd.

I changed my manual trans oil in my 00 v6. The guy at the parts store said Mobil 1 5w-30 was fine. The trans makes a little extra noise while in neutral than I remember, but other than that I think it's fine. Does anyone know if it's ok to use engine oil in the trans or if i should dump it out asap and get mopar oil?

For either of the two available manual transmissions:

Manual Transmission, NV3500 ..... GLS

Manual Transmission, NV1500 ..... GLS

5W-30 Synthetic Motor Oil is the correct choice.

NV1500 requires 0.2 pt. (0.1 Liter) friction modifier.

Thanks you helped out alot, and thanks for not lecturing me for not using amsoil. I think next time I make an order I might change to 10w-30 amsoil anyway to try to quiet things down, it's got alot of miles on it. Do you think that would help?

The AX15 takes 75-90 gear oil... I think mine took a little over 4 quarts or maybe it was a little over 3 quarts, not really sure there... The ol' memory isn't as good as it used to be... But anyway I would recommend going with a synthetic here "because the brass syncro's in these things have a tendacy to stick a lot = gear grinding and hard shifting" and my choice of course would be Amsoil's series 2000 oil simply because it's the best...

Steve can straighten everything out as far as the specs go and even hook you up with the best oil for the job...
