As long as you know it's illegal. You cannot legally put duals on a system that was manufactured as a single exhaust anymore, according to the feds. And before you flame me, I didn't write the law - so complain to your congressman to change it. Any shop that does this is breaking the law.

unless you get a "dual" set of catalitic converters you will not be legal. I dont know what the laws are in the US, but in Canada, unless your Dakota is made before 1980 (LOL) you need a cat on your vehicle. If you get true duals, then you will need dual cats to be compliant. Now you might be meaning cat back duals, which is legal, cause all the exhaust is going through the cat you already have. By the way, on the V6, true duals will not give you all that much benefit. when I got my high flow exhaust, I went with a single pipe (to be different) but its 3" from the cat back - no loss of power either

yes,I't'll have 2 cats for a true dual setup.I was going to go with a single converter but I think it'll sound alot better with true duals myself.
I can't believe that's illegal..Just because it left the factory with single exhaust, means it has to stay that way.Kinda stupid I think.JMO
The guy that put my motor in said I won't be losing anything,as far as low end torque goes.Dunno personally. He races every sunday so I would think he knows what he's talking about ;)

Interesting, in the St. Louis area you have to have operating emission control devices the vehicle came with. One has an emissions inspection every other year and if stuff is missing, they make you put it on. But, outside of the St. Louis area, the State of MO does not check these things out. Case and point, I had a '78 Ford F-100 that had the catalytic converter removed not long after the vehicle was purchased so it could run on leaded gas. Ran it for years in this state with no problems, after moving to St. Louis in 1996, had to put a catalytic converter back on it, 18 years after it was removed because it came with one out of the factory. No fines, just had to have the emissions stuff it came with out of the factory before passing the vehicle and allowed to license it (the cops don't pull you over and check). Sooo, if you have emissions inspections where you are, better check with your State laws, otherwise, its up to you.
