i was wondering what the best way to get some low end power out of dakota? i have a 1993 extended cab 2wd v6. i love my truck and recently had a flowmaster 40 series delta flow put on with a high flow cat converter... the only problem is that the jerk that did my work put a 3 inch pipe on between the muffer and the cat... so i have about 6 feet of 3 inch piping and it completely kills my torque with the AC on. when the AC is off.. i dont notice it as much... but ive read mixed feelings about air intakes and the V8 throttle bodies as well as crank pullies.. etc. I was wondering if someone could please clear this up for me as i love my truck and am very happy with the midrange and high end but some off the line would be better... thanks guys

I have the same exhaust (different brand but with 3 in pipes) but in my case I gained low end torque. I have no AC, but with the 5 speed, you can compensate with the clutch.
I think the best way to get the low end is to change the gears. In my case, since I have the base 98 Dak, standard cab, short box, it came with the ultra slow 3.21 gears. I want to find some inexpensive 3.90's and a couple it with a PowerTrax LSD. In that way, my truck will be one explosive bundle.

well... unfortunetly i have the automatic. i have the 3.55 gears and they were great for low mid and high... in my opinion the best all around gearing for the truck(before the exhaust.. i think they gutted the cat)... keep in mind though that i am 16 and i need money for gas too.lol. right now id just like to do some cheap mods to see what i can get out of her. thanks.

Cheapest, easiest is take it easy on the right foot. That will give you your biggest gain.

lets see, 16 years old, probably the first vehicle, many friends to impress... take it easy on the right foot? I dont think that adds up. I remember back in my day.... HA!

better to do it now, before gas is even more expensive

well i mean.. im not THAT concerned about gas mileage... so long as i get 12 miles to the gallon.lol. i mean, im not a crazy driver.. spritied maybe.lol. but i usually get about 15 to 17 city and 18 to 20 highway. What about the IAT mod.. will that help my low end at all? IM sure once i get the transmission rebuild that it will definitely help.. power and gas wise.
