I have a 93 2 wheel drive 3.9 5 speed Dakota. I want to put a V8 in my truck but don't know if the tranny will hold up. How do i identify what tranny i have and how strong it is? Thanks

I think you have the AX-15 tranny... if so, I don't think it will hold up to a v8 for long. what are you thinkin' about dropping in your dak??

I'v been thinkin about putting in a 5.9 from a ram and finding a 5 speed to put behind it also from a ram. I have a 93 regular cab short box so even a 5.2 would move that thing around but i'm still finding information on how everything will work and if a 5 speed out of a ram would fit. If u got any suggestions let me know. Thanks

Eric

i think it would be cool if someone could stick a 4.7L in a gen 2 dak! you could just get the drivetrain out of a gen 3 and work from there :-) i bet that would be a quick little truck!

i though about the 4.7 but i'm only 16 and don't have the cash to buy a drivetrain and switch it all over. that would be really cool though but i'm going to stick to a 5.9 5 speed as far as i know.

daffydak you are a fuking hom0sexual STFU!

Just because you have a 4.7 doesnt make that motor the badest thing in the world. The ax15 will hold up fine behind a stockish 5.2/5.9 just fine. Have you done this swap? Do you know they wont hold up? No! So shut the fuk up. A stock 5.9 in a dak will be much faster than a 4.7 and will be a direct bolt in and work with existing electronics...

kill yourself

Thank you “hater-hater” and “for hater”
I just figured it would be cool to put a 4.7L in a LIGHTER gen-2. I have NEVER heard of it being done... And if you get the ax15 to hold up to a 5.9L, SHOW ME! I believe the nv3500 is mated with the 5.2L, and MIGHT hold up a little bit longer....

Hater, I'm interested in knowing if YOU EVEN HAVE A DAKOTA!?!? I have already owned 2 DAKOTAS (a 98 3.9L auto (42RE) and my current 00 dak) Have you ever even DRIVEN a DAK?? Even changed your OWN OIL??!

LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL!

wow, you guys are brutal....

Anyways yes a ax15 will hold up behind a stock 5.9 as long as you arent doing john force style burnouts with it everyday. I was putting down 300hp/400ft/lb at the wheels or there abouts with my old 3.9 through an ax15 with a few clutch dumps on slicks with no problems. A big part of it is just being able to properly shift the trans....

it "may" hold up if you baby it. although it was made for the 2.5/3.9 engines. proper shifting is a BIG part of it, unless you want to kill your synchros :-) I just don't see it taking the brutal torque of the 5.9L daily.

wow that must have been a kiler 3.9L :-P
did you have it stroked, or blown?

dude, easy now, lol

I've been building and racing these trucks for about 6 years now. If you are on a budget just run the ax15 till it breaks. If you are easy on it and its in good shape it should last for awhile...

and no, it wasnt stroked or blown. New 3.9 should kill those numbers aswell

you still haven't answered my question.. what do you drive HATER??

I fully agree that the ax15 can take it for a while, but I wouldnt go on a road trip with it LOL :-) as long as you drive it like an old lady, I can see you getting some time out of it.... but if your putting a 5.9L in a rc dakota, I hardly think it will be driven easily LOL!!

What DID you do to your 3.9L? it sounds kewl :-) I wish I could have kept my other dak, but I needed the trade-in money.

The 3.9 is still in it but is going to come out when i find a NV3500 tranny and when i buy the 5.9 I haven't called anywhere on the tranny yet but there is 5.9s around. Yea i'm not going to be driving it like a granny so the ax-15 needs to come out with the 3.9 .
