I was pulling out from a stop today and started releasing the clutch but it was like the truck just sat there. it was in gear all the way. it felt like the clutch was slipping but when i get on it in 3 or 4th gear there is no slipping. Could there be air in the clutch line and be causing the clutch to not actually engage when you let out the pedal? Is there a way to bleed the line? it's a 2002 3.9 with 31,000 miles on it. any info would be great! I've driven stick for 15 years and know that its not me! my S10 went 110,000 miles before i got rid of it and it was still original clutch. what is the life for dodge clutches from everyone's experience?

I am at about 73,000 miles on my '00 Dakota 2wd 3.9L 5sp

I am on my original clutch....well not original. Within the first 2,000 miles I had some trouble with the clutch engaging and dissengaging. the shop couldn't find anything wrong so they replaced it all (everything) under warranty. Haven't had a problem since.

only thing I have had to do is change the oil and filters, and the thermostat gasket just recently because it started to weep.

I did notice when i was under the hood looking that first, there was a slight overflow of fluid coming out of the resevoir for the clutch fluid and second, when i opened the cap a little bit of compressed air came out. Was this air trapped in the line and would it cause what i was describing?

95 2wd 5sp here. Bought new. Never raced or have been hard on the truck. 100,700 miles. Original clutch. Still feels solid like it did the first time I ever drove it.

I don't know....air in the line would make me difficult to shift at all as there would not be enough throw to seperate the clutch plates. The air would compress not allowing full movement to seperate the plates....I think it would be make the clutch not engage(sit at a light or help you shift to begin with)

I can never remember wich way is what. Does engage mean the engine is dissconnected from the tranny or does engage mean connected?
