I think I found a vacuum leak the other day. It's on the elbow that comes off the pass. side of the intake, and feeds the accessories in the dash (i believe). Anyway, since I didn't have a replacement elbow with me, I took a zip-tie and tightened where the elbow meets the intake, to see if it would make a difference. When driving now, I notice that it seems to idle a little smoother (might just be my imagination, though), and when I am driving and pull my foot off the gas, the truck no longer engine brakes as harsh as it did before.

My question is this... Did I partially fix the leak, or did I make it worse?

The less engine braking makes me think that maybe there is more air getting into the intake, reducing the vacuum.

Any ideas?

PS - It's a 5 spd, 3.9L, 1996

the less harsh engine braking could be due to the fact ur not running lean anymore from the vaccuum leak
