Subject: 3.9 won't start at times

I apologize if this has been posted before; I did spend a lot of time searching through all of the old posts and couldn't find this question. I have a 92 Dakota with a 3.9, at times it just doesn't want to start. But if I turn the key on and leave it on for about 20 seconds, it starts just fine. It seems as if it only does it when the engine is warm, however it's possible that it just hasn't happened cold yet but will someday. I've recently done unrelated work on it but this problem existed before that so I know it's not the work. The unrelated work was replacing the plugs, cap, rotor, coil, wires, and 1 fuel injector. Also I replaced the plenum gasket on the underside of the intake, and of course the intake manifold gaskets. I seem to get real bad gas mileage but I'm going to look at that soon. There are no codes from the computer, and it seems to run fine. But at times it just won't start, it will turn over and at times it sounds like it wants to start but doesn't. But if I turn the key on and leave it on for a while, and then try to start it without turning the key off first, it starts perfectly. Any ideas?

Thanks,
Joe

I had a 1990 dodge mini-van(traded it in on new mazda mpv)that did that for a long time. Had it into the shop a few times and they could find nothing wrong. One day it just would turn over but would not start at all, the fuel pump went on it. After I paid 380.00$ and they put in a new fuel pump it started no problems after that. Just before the pump went it have problems starting when cold and even more when it was hot.

Possible ASD relay ( in underhood fusebox )
or the wiring from there back to firewall
-find a splice of 3 or 4 wires
Redo it with a quality joiner , or solder and tape
