Message:
I have a 1998 dakota 4x4 with the 3.9l v6. I have seen a lot of talk on this forum about putting a new TB on it.

Can someone who has done this tell me how much of a horse power increase they recieved and if it is worth trying? Also, which one would I need to buy and where do I get it?

Thanks!

anyones whos done it will tell u its worth it
And im one of those people :)

in a v8 i think it was around 10 more hp to the rear wheels

but thats beside the point with this mod ur increasing throttle response noticably

As for the best i think it was flowmetrics but since im cheap i grinded my own with a dremel

I did the same...got another stock V6 tb and ground it down with a dremel. Great mod...though I'd LOOOVE to go with an F&B sometime, just too broke right now.

From all that I've read, it is one of the top three mods to do. The easist thing to do is use a stock v8 TB which requires a v8 trottle cable. (uses all the same sensors). Another choice is to "port & polish" the v6 TB.(cheap & easy). The $$ choice is a Fastman or F&B tb. I think I also read that it's good for 10hp & better responce. I just finished porting & polishing a used v6 tb, and will soon find out how it works.

When you change the tb, you'll just need to swap the throttle bodies, sensors (cuz you know yours work), and then on some Dakotas you'll need to switch your throttle cable with a new one (depending on what linkage your throttle body has). Then you just need to reset your computer.

To reset the computer...disconnect neg. battery terminal, turn key and hold in start position for approx. 30 seconds, reconnect terminal...then start it up, let it idle without touching the gas, shut it off, start it, let it idle again not touching the gas, shut it off, then start and drive or whatever.

96+... get one from a 5.2L or 5.9L (both are the same size)...3.7 and 4.7 ones won't work.
