I raced a mid 90's extended cab GMC with a auto 5.7L"stock"....in my 04 Dakota 3.7L"BONE STOCK"

it was really close, we went off the line....i got raped :( until 90mph then i started to pull on him bad

on a 40 punch i pulled about a truck length on him, he started to pull back about 60mph when i had to shift...but i sill got him in top end

on a 60 puch (end of 2nd gear and begining of 3rd) i had to start off in 3rd gear, he pulled hard until 90mph again

all in all i have to give chevy cudos on the 5.7L it is a deacent drive train, but dodge makes a V6<===== that will beat it

(for my post about the 392 gears, i would be able to have a hell of alot better off the line performance than i have)

* sigh * Here we go again.

Do you realize that the 5.7 liter (350) isn't even available in trucks anymore? Did you know that a Silverado is a lot heavier than a Dakota? I'd like to see you put your 3.7 up against one of the recent GM truck engines...

If it makes you feel any better, I had a friend that had a 95 Silverado with a 5.7 liter and a 5 speed. I used to race him with my 1988 Plymouth Reliant wagon with a 2.5 liter 4 (when I was in high school), and we would be neck and neck the whole way.

man... going out and just seeing who has more top end isnt racing... that's what gets a car full of kids killed in a civic.

sorry to sound like a hardass but just be sure to be carefull when trying to see how fast your are compared to another person... you may know how to drive but they might not.

... plus lay back on the new truck!!! it isnt even broken in yet!!! :D

Wake Up SLOPAR Boy!!
I'm not a Chevy fan but you must have dreamed of this beating a 5.7 Chevy Truck with your puny 3.7 dakota go cart(you may have a weight advantage there). Did he know you were racing him? Besides let see if you can out payload, pull or haul him. Thats what real trucks are made for. LOL.

To 93Dak: The Silverado is NOT a lot heavier than the Dakota.
The extended cab Silverado with the is listed at 3823 lbs. The
2004 Dakota (Regular cab!) is listed at 3801 lbs. Essentially they
are the same weight. I just am tired of people not realizing that
the Dakota is not a light truck. It is better compared to a Chevy
full size than to an S-10. This also explains all the Chevys I see
around here with bent frames from someone putting too much
weight in the bed.

First of all "93 DAk". Chevy still makes the 5.7 v8, it used to be tbi but now its a vortec much more hp and torque.
There is absolutely no way that "jeremy04/3.7" beat a 5.7 Chevy my dad has one and they have tons of power. You guys are all on way too many drugs. I have a 89 dakota 4x4 with a k&n filter and its definately not a race truck.

Just to let you guys know, the older 350 can take the new Silverado's 5.3L 285 HP engine. I was riding with my friend Michael's '97 silverado 1500 with the 350, we raced a 2000 red silverado, took him from the line, lost a little ground in 2nd gear, and then rolled away from him again in 3rd. Apparently before the race, we didn't notice the cop sitting right behind us. The other guy gets off with a warning instead of a $500 ticket and we just drive off lucky as hell.
