OK....lemme rexplain myself. The reason for doing sdo....is because it might be cheaper to get the 3.92s with sure grip out of a R/T dakota rather than buying and installing 3.92s with sure grip in his 04 dakota.

What's the point of swapping the rear end if you aren't changing ratios (or going to a stronger rear end)?

he is, his dakota has 3.55s in a 8.25 rear, probably open end
the r/t has 3.92s in a 9.25 and with limited slip.
what he's asking is whether or not the actual axle assembly will bolt up just like his stock 8.25, which is what i'd like to know as well.

He has a 3.55 ratio with an 8.25 rear end.
To be cheaper he wants to install an R/T rear end. This rear end is an 9.25 with posi and 3.92 ratio.
Now do you understand?

A new truck with 500 miles on it and he wants to go and rip the rear axle out from under it. Go figure????? I have an 04 Reg cab 5 speed 3.7 SXT with the 3.55 gears and it seems to be a great match for this truck. The drivability/performance is fine. It hardly seems worth it to me. Do as you wish.
