Subject: M1 manifold for 3.9L ???
IP: Logged

Message:
I keep hearing about the M1 manifold from the other forums, but not on the V6 forum. I was wondering if it works with our engines. I am sorry if this sounds stupid but please bear with me.

Hughes makes one though. But, isn't it just a re-worked stock?

I asked Bernd about these, in his opinion M1 is better. My mechanic was telling me about an R/T guy who is doing really well at the local tracks, he likes the hughes intakes.

thanx lesley.....you da (wo)man!

i like how they filled in the plenum divider.....but there looks like a lot of obstruction to get the air to the runners.

Is this what you were talking about doing on your own? I've never looked inside one, but I imagine they remove any restrictive baffling. It looks a heck of a lot different from the M1, so what would be the difference in function?

i am thinking of a direct port system....those stock manifolds require that the air go into the plenum first and then up the runners and across the manifold again and into the port.... i want to make one that has the air go straight to the runners and into the port.....just a straight line from the runner to the port...no fancy curves.

that one by hughes is a big step up from the stock unit because the stock has 15" runners (the longer runners are to help produce low in torque) and on the stock there would be a big divider going front to back on that manifold dividing the ports.

Just remember, any "modified" or stock version of the factory manifold will eventually fail prey to the belly pan leaking (no matter what you do). Hughes uses the old GM/Ford valve cover hold-downs which isn't a bad idea...but will still, eventually leak. If you want to run boost and/or nitrous, stick with the M1 (either the 2BBL or 4BBL version).
