I was wondering what the torque specs are on the Tranny pan. I have been looking for awhile to try to answer my own question. It is a 99 3.9l 4x4. I did a flush and put a new filter in a bout 2 months agao and it has been leaking ever since. I just went out and got a new gasket and put sealant around each hole to try to keep it from leaking but I would like to try to get the torque right for the bolts that hold the pan on. Thanks.

most likely, you should have put a bead of the correct RTV around the whole gasket on both sides, or just forget the gasket and put the RTV rite on the pan and put it on. my service manual says for the 42RE trans, the fluid pan bolts get 13 ft/lb. Steve

If your truck jerks and slips, it may be low on transmission fluid due to the leak, so DIRECTLY, the leak wouldnt make a difference in the performance of your truck, but if it leaks out too much fluid, then of course, your truck will show it. Check your fluid levels, and keep the transmission fluid in safe areas.. check it often until you get the leak fixed... I don't quite know how much one would charge for that.

Well got a new gasket and put RTV on it today, will see if it leaks. I also found after looking in the manual for the 5th time to tighten them to 150in lbs. Skater it is easy to fix yorself. NAPA charget $8.50 for a new gasket , RTV, and some carb cleaner, or abour $25.00 foar a gasket kit that comes with a new filter. All ya need to do is use a 13mm socket on the 10-12 bolts that hold the pan on. Make shure you have some thing to catch the fluid that will leak out. Clean the gasket off the pan(use the carb cleaner to make shure it is good and clean) and then clean the tranny where the gasket would mate up with it. Than you should put a new filter on too. when the pan is off you can see the filter it is held on by 2 hex screws just remove them and put the new filter on useing the same screws. Put the RTV around all the gasket holes on both sides and a thin strip between the holes. Just for a FYI if you do drop the pan their is a magnet on the bottom clean it up good and put it back it, their will be a sludge on it but there should not be matel shavings, if there is you need to bring it in NOW. Than get the right fluid and filler up. I would recomend AMSOIL but that is just what I like to use.

you don't need rtv, and its a reuseable gasket by the way, it's stamped right on the pan
