I'm about to put the new 16's on my GenII 1992 Dakota. The 5 spoke alloys that look similar to the 17" R/T's.

I can't get a response for anything around here as far as them working.

I know the 6 x 4.5 bolt circle works. The backspacing on my stock rims is 5" while these are 5.5", so this may be a slight problem since its dropped 2/3. I have 235's now and they rub only when the wheel is locked, so I'll probably put 215's-225's in the front and lower profile tires.

The only thing I hear is that the grease cap on the front wheels is bigger than the GenIII's, so the center cap won't let it fit. I plan to just get some 3/16" spacers. Hopefully it will work.

No Dak rims past (I beleive) 90 will go on your Dak 89Dak.
If you look closely you'll see that your Dak has 5 lug nutz, all Daks 91+ have 6 bolt. I may be off by a year at best but Ive owned an 89, 94 and 96.

Positive side to it though...you have the most popular Mopar bolt pattern ever. I think its 5 bolts on 4.5" spacing. I put an 8 3/4 rear out of a 70 Cuda in my 94, then I put on 90 rptors to get the 5 on 4.5 to match and if you look at my profile pict I have 1971 Ralley rims on it.
You can use just about any rim that fits B&E body Mopars and most Dodge trucks before 84 (I think). Aftermarket rims for your bolt pattern are waaaaay cheaper then 6 bolt Dak rims. Of course you have to make sure back and front spacing is correct. I did try a set of mitsu 3000VR4 rims on mine, looked cool as hell but hit real bad when the wheel was turned.

I think Ford Ranger and Jeep wheels will fit these trucks. If you live near Atlanta I have a set of aluminum Jeep wheels I will give you.

You are correct Fazdak.

Thx 92dak.

I dont think the Ranger rims will work either, yes they have the same bolt pattern but I think the hub hole is too small. I had a Furd Areostar work van, it had brand new tires on it so I figured I'd just pop all its rims off and slap em on the Dak for a quicky state inspection, not!
Long story short...they guy who ended up buying that van put Ranger rims on it and they seemed to have the same hub hole size. I could be wrong though, even though you were joking anyway. Your old man kik your _zz if you pulled that huh?

i went to pepboys and was looking at rims and tires. should i go with 16 or 17 inch rims and low profile tires? What combo(rim and tire size) will work on my 89?

All depends on the look you like and how much you can spend. I say go for the largest diam rim you can afford. Just make sure the over all tire diameter is close to stock unless you want to find ways to make your speedo correct. As far as what will work you need to work out the back and front spacing on your Dak to see. Any NTB or HP parts place that sells tire/rim combos near your should be able to help you out on that.

No, Craparo rims wont fit. Some Furd and Jeep rims will tough, should you have a line on any.

i dont have to worry about the speedo. the previous owner of my truck blew the rearend out of it and put a different geared one in. at slower speeds the speedo is 5 to 10 mph off. at highway speeds it is 10 to 15 mph off. i plan to go to the boneyard tomorrow to get a bed, tailgate, rear bumper and grill. i am also going to check on if they have any decent rims. i really cant pay 1000 bucks for rims.
