Subject: Belly Pan Gasket
IP: Logged

Message:
I noticed the other day that my air filter had some oil on it right at the area where the tube to the crankcase air breather connects to the airbox. Is this normal? I thought the airflow was supposed to be through the filter, breather, cranckcase, PCV, and then intake manifold. First thing that came to mind was that I was getting a positive pressure in the crankcase, causing a reverse flow. Does this mean the bellypan gasket is gone? PCV should still be ok, it rattle when I shake it, and all the lines I can see look clear.

Thanks,

J-Man

I don't believe you have any problem..
PCV will not necessarily ' suck ' all the
excess " air " from engine.
At least some will be [ sucked ] up thru that
filter to the { airbox} and depending on
how < dirty > your engine /or engine oil is
will depend on how visible it is
on your air filter...
If belly-pan was bad -=- all would be
[ sucked ] thru intake directly.........

I'll bet your PCV valve is bad. The rattle test is pretty much a useless test. To test the PCV system, plug the vent filter hose in the air box with your thumb. With the engine running, you should feel some sort of vacuum build on this hose. Under no circumstances should pressure build up. if you feel pressure building, check that the PCV valve has good maifold vacuum supply. If it does, get a new PCV valve. How many miles on the truck?? You could also have excess engine blow by that the PCV system cant handle.

Thanks guys.

150,000 km on the engine (almost 100,000 miles).

I'll check those things soon.
