This is the scoop. I`ll try to explain cause I dont know the names of the parts. I`m looking at the repair manual for 1989 daks and it seems to be a bit different from what I`m looking at on my truck.
On the driver side there are 2 canisters. They each have a vacuum hose(I think) going to the carb(TB?). They aslo have a metal tube each, maybe an inch in diameter and they both go to the cat I believe. And...there is a rubber hose connecting both canisters.
(I think the canisters are the SWITCH/RELEIF VAVLE and DIVERTER VAVLE)
Whats happening is there is a rubber hose coming from the diverter valve(I think) that connects the metal tube going to the cat. This rubber hose keeps burning off. I`ve replaced the hose but it keeps burning off.
I can still drive the truck but it seems to lose power once it warms up.
Should I just replace all these parts??
Can someone help me out?

Not familiar with the canisters, but the metal tube to the cat sounds like air injection. The hose melting sounds like the check valve at the top of the metal tube from the cat is stuck open, allowing exhaust to flow back. Find that valve and replace with a new one.

Replace the rubber hose, and wrap foil around it. That will solve the issue... Without a heat plate in the said area, this is the best move..

i agree with bob lincoln,

kevin,s way will not solve the burning hose issue

i,m not sure, but is one black plastic with a vaccuum line to the tb and a large hose going to a metal tube with a check valve and the tubing that bolts to the back of the exh.manifold and then across the back of the motor to the other exh.manifold and down to the cat.

if this is what your talking about change the check valve on the metal tube
