Larry or whoever will listen,

I got a set of crower R.R.'s 1.7 ratio for my dak.
nice product but I'm had some trouble installing them. I did as you have said and replaced and tightened each one in sequence , Cyl 1 thru 6, and yes I had each cylinder at TDC.

The trouble was that I tightened each down 3/4 turn and when I started the truck it acted like 2 of the cylinders were not firing. After doing this three times I tightened each down 1/2 a turn and it seems to run fine now. I,m going to check them again since it seems some are a little noisey.

My question is what did I do wrong? Also when readjusting them should I just snug them down or what? I'm lost at this point and need help.

1992 dak v6 5spd 4x4 95.000 mi.

Thanx in advance, tom

so u torqued the studs down to 25 ft. lbs. with washers or guids under them with red threadlocker on the threads

ok pre lube the rockers and put them on all the studs

now thread the lock nut on all the studs

with fuel pump relay pulled bump the starter until u see oil just come out of the rockers or pushrods

then set at tdc and set to 0 lash by tightning the locknut down while turning the pushrod with ur fingers as soon as the pushrod shows a little resistence when ur turning it stop tightening its at 0 lash... now tighten the lock nut down 3/4 of a turn more then lock it in

after u believe the threadlocker is good and dry
start it up an let it idle if u hear some noise it should go away quickly if not shut it down let it sit a bit start it back up. it should be gone after that if not...
take valve covers off unlock lock nuts and tighten them a 1/4 turn more re lock them then ur done

I know after i installed mine i noticed right away it ran quieter

Heres another way

turn the motor over clockwise only and watch the
rockers doing 1 cyl at a time,

rotate motor when one on that cyl goes down and
just begains to change direction the other rocker
on that cyl will be on the base circle and than
adjust it, you will feel as soon as the push rod
becomes hard and barly able to turn with your
fingers, 0 lash now go 3/4 turn

do all cyls the same way one down and just change
direction than adjut the other on that cyl, than
turn until that one goes down and just starts to
come up than the other will be on base and redy
to adjust

Or the way I do it is after intial adjustment is
to take 1 cove off at a time and back them off
untill a click is heard than take it down untill
it stops, than 1/4, 1/4, 1/4, 3/4 going a 1/4 at
a time while idleing, than tighten lock

You do lose some oil but you will be right on
doing it while running 1 side at a time or you
lose to much oil, 1 cover off at a time

Yes the truck will temp miss untill the lifter
bleeds down

You can be off thinking the piston is at TDC comp
stroke but is actualy on exh stroke and they will
look both closed but the exhaust will be slightly
open and throw you off,

while 1 is down adjust the other it works better
for most than trying to get each at TDC I have
found some people doing this and actualy having
the piston up but on wrong stroke and than they
will be noisy

Thats when they end up by me to adjust them right
spend the time to get them right they will run
a little noisyer than stock but its mor of a hard
rumble sound they make no ticks should be heard

Thanx to all of you, except hater!, for your useful info. Larry, I am going to try to do the one side at a time while running, this seems to make the most sense to me. By the way, she's running really good right now just a little noisy, but way better than stock.

This is a time consuming mod but has excellent results and well worth the effort.

Thanx again, TomZ

Harland Sharp roller rockers are so much easier than this. I realize you don't want to hear this but for anyone else following this thread you don't have to play TDC hide and seek with the HS ones as they don't require valve lash adjustments.

Would someone mind explaining how the Harland Sharps work ?

Do you just bolt them up and hope for the best Or do you really know what you have with out any adjusting?

Thanks in advance.

they just bolt on and u hope they are right like the stockers just bolt on and some may allow tapping noise
i know my stock rockers made a lot of tapping noise thats one of the reasons i replaced them with adjustable RRs
