Subject: diverter valve 1990 dak

Message:
Here's the problem. My friend has a 1990 V6 Dak. There is a tube running from the back of the diverter valve to a vacuum line near the rear of the engine.

The piece of metal holding that hose in place has disintegrated so much that we cant tell how it went back together. We cant tell if the hose connected to a piece of metal that went through the bracket into the valve, or if the gasket had a metal piece, or if it was a separate metal piece, or how the stupid thing went together.

I'm looking for someone who might have replaced the valve, or has had it apart who might be able to tell me how the hose connects to the back of the valve.

I just want to be sure were ordering the right piece before we go to the parts store and order something.

Thank ya kindly

No, its on the drivers side, front of the engine, offset away from the engine by a crescent shaped mount from the engine block. Rather large valve with what looks like 1"ID line going to a one way reed valve (check valve?) on the exhaust.

Known to the dealership as a diverter valve.

from the pump their should be the diverter valve
connected to the pump with two hose one going to
the passengers side and one to the drivers side
and they should connect to a one-way check valve
,so air can blow into it but not come back so to
protect it from back fires and hot exhaust so's
not to damage diaphragm's in diverter valves. now
the fresh air go's threw check valve to catalytic
converter and to exhaust manifold as to burn off
fuel better so you don't have to worry about smog
.im going threw the same thing but my 87 dodge
dakota has two diverter valves instead of one like
yours i believe . go to junk yard find your system
and check it by blowing threw check valves and
their should be only air one way and thats away
from the pump away cut of what you need on
catalytic convert side and blow back to make sure
there is no air going back threw and check valve
it should not make rattle noise's when shaked now
the diverter valves you's vacuum to operate so
check them by sucking on vacuum line and watching
valve inside if they move easy and shut off when
vacuum is released ,then put it all together and
your off ,oh you can check your one-way check
valves on your car just take off the air pump
diverters hose connected to the check valve and
start your car their should not be any exhaust at
all coming back threw or smoke try putting a clove
on and check for even the slightest chance of
escaping exhaust . be careful if the car has been
running a long time it will be hot .good luck
