Subject: idling rough right after start

starts, idles smooth for a few secs then goes rough, almost like a hot cam idle, for about 5-10 seconds then smoothes out again. does it when engines hot or cold. almost every time i start it. mileage is great for a '00 QC w/ 3.9 5spd w/ 3.55 open. about 20mpg hiway.
changed plugs about 2 months ago, along w/ Borg Warner cap & rotor(brass). maybe wires? only 36k on the clock. any suggestions.

I bet you changed the plugs to the Autolite 3923's?

If so, try the Bosch +4's #4417 (1 step colder than what Bosch specs for our trucks)

I had the 3923's in for about 5,000 miles, tried many different gaps and my truck always idled like that. As soon as I put in the 4417's all was right in the world.

no Autolite's,contrary to the majority here, i have never had any luck with Autolites in anything i've owned. reg Bosch Plat's 1 range colder than stock. 3229 i think. will try a .045 gap.

Rough idle at start could be many things

Bad wire
Bad plug
bad cap
bad rotor
a leak on the pletium gasket
a leaky injector driping gas when off
low fuel presure at start up
a small vac leak

Have the battery checked

As strange as it sounds, it could be the battery. The system needs good power to run right and if the battery is down it will make it run poor after starting. I chased this problem for almost 2 months untill one day I needed a jump to get it started. After the new battery was put in, the truck ran great.

thanks for all the suggestions. well it could be the batt. it's an '00 and got the original battery. it's more annoying than troublesome.
