Hey will!! Glad to see your back. I think the last I saw of you, was when I first became a member!! Although I posted for a long time, without a membership lol....

I have a quick question to shoot at you....

I have heard good, and bad about shift kits. I have heard, they can prolong your tranny's life. And conversely, I have heard that they beat the living crap out of your tranny and kill it in no time...
Having said that, do you think it would be ok to put a shift kit (transgo reprogramming kit TFOD HD2 500 and 518 series 2R) in my 42RE?? The trans has no problems (except the "normal" intermittent harsh reverse engagement that the dealer says happens on almost all gen 3 Dakotas) I just want firmer shifts and less gear hunting...
the link to my shiftkit is here: transgo chrysler shift kit

Thanking you in advance

Shift kit

Put it in

Use the resister and turn the prsure up 2 1/2 turns

Use the solid spacer in the 2-3 servo

The 1-2 spacer is not needed

Nice firm but not harsh shifts, less slipage like
you get from a smoth slow shift that builds heat
yes they prolong the life of the trans less
slipage and heat build up and clutch wear

Just go street strip not race with the kit

thanks!! now i just need to find a tranny shop to put it in for me! i took one look at the instructions, and put the box back on the shelf lol. too many little check balls, and springs for my clumsy A$$ to lose!!!

thanks again.

btw, it dosen't mention the harsh reverse engagement in the shift kit documentation. do you think it will fix it, or make it worse? it sounds really bad sometimes, (metal to metal bad) and its not my rear end or U-joints, its the tranny....

I`d like to do things the right way. I was thinking of a few engine mods first. I cannot just do everything at once. What would you recommend doing first?? Intake?
By the way I just dropped an engine in that is said to only have 100,000 kms on it. Someone told me to put on some magnum heads.
What do you think??
