I'm doing my exhaust soon. Lo0king for affordable headers and looking for a high flow cat. I've made my mind up on the muffler (flowmaster 40 series single 2.5" in/out). Any suggestions? Thanx.
I have a 1998 3.9 Regular Cab

Unless you get them used you won't find them cheap. JBA and
Gibson make headers for the 3rd gen 3.9s.

If you like loud then you will like the Flowmaster. I don't like
loud and went with Dynomax. Your size in and out is fine.

Dropped JBA headers on my '93 3.9 w/ Flowmaster 40, kept the stock Y pipe and used custom tubes and 3" tip.

Sweetest sound I know.

Grant...
Do the JBAs even come with a new Y-Pipe? I didn't think so.

?...
My friend with a 318 just got a set of Borla headers with a Y-Pipe. He seems to like it a whole lot but said there was no change in sound. Don't expect anything major if you get it on your 3.9, though.

Kept the original Y pipe. I will try to post a video tonight on the web for you to hear the truck. Very different than stock. I think it is because of the flowmaster muffler though, not the headers.

Does actually having cat even make a difference in power. I`ve only owned my dak for 6 months and when I bought it buddy said he gutted it.

The y pipe is sold separately by JBA and even in their own words
for a V6 its a waste of money. It's the exact same size as the
stock y pipe diameter. The only difference is their's is mandrel
bent.

I have a carsound cat as well. The cat has a 3" in/out. Master Performance in Brampton Ontario did the install. They custom bent and welded the remaining pipes.
