There is something weird happening with the truck.
I have a 98 dak sport V6 and sometimes,no matter the outside temperature,it takes about 6 to 7 tries for it to start up. This doesn't happen everytime I start the truck so my mechanic won't be able to re-create the problem. I had diagnostics done recently when the check engine light came on and it was low on freon (!) but nothing about the starting came up on OBD.
To be specific,I'll go to crank it,all the dash lights come on and a click will happen but no start. Then I say "son of a..." and retry while pumping the gas lightly. After 4 to 6 tries it will start. Could it be a clogged fuel line? fuel injector? starter going bad?
Any and all help/suggestions are very much appreciated because I dont want to pay 89 bucks/diag. for the mechanic to say "gee dude,we don't know." I'm driving to Florida from Atlanta in a month and I need to get this rectified.
Thanks and this site rocks.

Just a click...not even crank over? Sounds like a started problem for sure. Flat spots on it perhaps?

A click but no start could be your starter solenoid being bad. When the solenoid goes it usually takes a few tries to get it to crank over. This is especially noticeable when the engine has been driven alot during the day.

So now the obvious next question is how much would it cost to fix it?

Possible battery crapping out ??

Put headlights on first
and get someone to watch when try to start.
If they stay bright = starter solenoid
Cost depends on how and who
I.E. rebuild starter
or replace starter with New

I have noticed in the past few months that when I turn the park/headlights on,the clock illumination is reduced greatly. I can still read it but it's not as bright as when the lights are off.
Maybe this will help narrow it down to battery or starter... I don't know.

I had the wife check the headlights when I started it and she said they got dim. New battery coming right up. I am real glad it wasn't the starter.Thank god that Dodge doesn't run this site or else we'd all be screwed. Thanks for your help!
