I have a 1994 Dakota, 3.9. It's a pretty beat up truck, but will still smoke 'em up pretty good. Anyways, I am getting ready to go to boot camp and while I'm away my mother is going to beef up my truck with the money I'll be making. I would like to put a 5.2 or 5.9 in it but I'm not sure what all it would involve. I need to talk with someone who knows all about this stuff. Do I need another tranny, upgrade the brakes, etc. I NEED ADVICE!!! Feel free to e-mail me or instant message me on Yahoo. TLB_USMC@YAHOO.COM
Thanks a bunch!!!!!!!

Well I know what that military pay is like (ex-Navy) you could get that 380HP 360 for only $3500.

The 360 will fit like it was born there. Get a Mopar Magazine. They have several ads for crate engines.. not to mention places like Summit, etc. You want it to live, get at least a '97 or newer 8.25 rear, or a 9.25 rear. The tranny will need serious beefing, or swapping with a heavier A518 if we're talking auto trannies. Get a TransGo shift kit, as well as a tranny cooler, so it'll live much longer. The torque converter will have to match a 360 Magnum. Older 360 (pre-Magnums) require a different weight to balance, so be sure to get one for 360 Magnum. For a nasty 380hp 360, you'll want to upgrade the radiator. Brake upgrades are always a good idea. I take it you're planning on a carbureted application? If so, you can run a wire to the tranny and activate the overdrive with a toggle switch, since the MPI stuff will not be there to talk with the computer. Definitely get wider wheels especially in the rear!!!

I'm leaving for the navy in june 29 and my moms gonna drive around my truck, its a 2000 3.9, and I jsut thought about leaving it like that, but If I was gonna do anything it would a 5.2 and then add a turbo and maybe a supercharger, but I really wanna go 4x4 so I might buy one of those 05 dakotas with 4x4 and a 4.7 or higher.
always manual
