Subject: how will this exhaust sound???

98 rc 3.9 auto mods are as follows
(180* t/s "cold" air intake w/k&n cone filter, v8 tb, glass pak, jet stage 2 chip, accell coil and super stock wires, splitfires, tps sensor "mod", napa brass cap and rotor, and (soon) crank sensor mod)

my glasspak just isnt loud enough and it dosent really have a tone to it (just rushing air and some noise..)

my question is how will the flowmaster 40 series 2 1/2 single in/out sound on my truck?? i would also consider a turndown or another muffler...

thanks in advance

Get that muff with single 2 1/2 in/dual 2 1/4 out. It will sound pretty dang bad. Use 18" long 3 1/2" tips.

This is what it will sound like on your truck.

www.mark-world.com/dakota

Keep in mind this is with a 3" pipe from the cat to the muffler
and a single 3" tailpipe.

Thanks!! That sounds GREAT!!!! All 3 inch from cat to tail you say. You dont even have a turndown? What about resonance in the cab, does it drone?
also will it still sound like that with 1.5 inch pipe? it would be cheaper for me to just get the muff lelded in instead of changing my pipe size (probably better for low end too)

I refreshed the page about 7 times LOL. man i like that sound!! it has a unique sound (probably because our v6s are odd fire..) my glass pak is ok, but it really sounds whimpy. the other day my supervisor asked me if i had an exhaust leak!! that was the last straw LOL

thats what i'm going for 40 series 3 inch pipe..

thanks again =)

"You dont even have a turndown? "

I have a turn down right at the end of my roll pan pointing down.

"What about resonance in the cab, does it drone?"

Yes it droned and after 4 years of putting up with it I just had
the cat back system yanked it's sitting in my garage right now.

"also will it still sound like that with 1.5 inch pipe?"

No, I just intalled 2 1/2" pipe cat back and single 2 1/2" from
the muffler and put a Dynomax on and it's much quieter now
just a touch louder than stock and I like it this way now. It did
turn heads before thats for sure.

" it would be
cheaper for me to just get the muff lelded in instead of changing
my pipe size (probably better for low end too"

You will loose low end going to 3" but pick up hi end.

Whoops i meant 2.5 inch stock pipe size.

Ok i can put up with droning as long as i can still hear my stereo lol. I might try the dynomax you have listed on the site (17748) its alot cheaper than the flowmaster.
So the sound recorded is the flowmaster right? I really do like that sound, maybe it would be a little loud though. I work second shift, and get home at about 15 after 12.
I don’t think my neighborhood would like me with a flowmaster LOL.

Thanks again!

I have the single in/out Flowmaster 40 Delta Flow with a turndown under the truck, sounds awesome, but very loud both inside and outside.

The loudness and resonance I had came from the 3" pipe and
the flowmaster combo, maybe you'd get the same sound from a
2 1/2 and a flowmaster. Since 2 1/2 is your stock pipe now (I
believe) just try a flowmaster and you should get what you want.

I've heard flowmasters are designed to sound good with smaller tips or something like that...somebody mentioned using huge tips would make it sound worse than normal. Can't remember where I saw that and can't verify how accurate the source was though...
