Nice tutorial! Wish I would have thought of that. Oh well I'll just take credit for it anyway. That's mine!

lol...geocities doesn't allow image hosting, but you did everything other than that right. =P

I use my own server to host my pics... but I think webshots.com, photoisland.com, and a bunch of others allow photohosting. Not sure if they're still free though. Everyone keeps changing their policies.

I'm gonna go for my A+ sometime... I know more than many people when it comes to computers. I know a ton of HTML, i can usually understand enough javascript to tweak it the way I want it, I am an advanced novice in visual basic.Net programming, an advanced beginner in C++ programming, I know a considerable bit about hardware, and I know (but suck at) networking.

Oh yeah...good idea another mark...lol

What they dont know wont hurt LOL!!
Vb (shudders) i played with that too, i lost interest. I used to do alot of basic programming on my Atari 800 i had (laugh it up LOL!) then in high school I programmed games into my ti83. I filled up the memory and didn’t have enough room for any of my formulas hehe. Then i had late arrival, so i would come in and do everything from wire pulling to working on the server (s) ah what fun. Now i drive a clamp truck 8 hours a day, not using any of the knowledge i possess.

hardware, im great with. networking, thats another story...... speaking of hardware, nvidia realesed the geforce 6800!!! that would be a nice replacement for my gf4 TI4400.

geez, I didnt mean to write that much

keep truckin'

Yea, I learned some basic on the Atari 800 way back when, first computer I used in school was the Apple ][ and tried my hand at machine language. I don't recommend that language though, what a pain. As far as hosting, I believe in paying to host, you get better results and no down time. I host at superuser.net. I'm not a salesperson for them and get no kick backs, just that their plans can't be beat for all the features and what not.

I believe in paying to host too...sorta. I pay my service provider to provide me with my connection and whatever bandwidth I'm allowed. I then set up an old computer with a 400 Mhz CPU, 300some mb sd-ram, a 4 gig hd for the OS, and a 20 gig hd for the webserver space and I use that to host my websites, pictures, etc off of. My ISP probably doesn't knowingly allow that stuff, but hey...as long as I'm not going over my bandwidth limits, I am just finding a useful way to take full advantage of my cable internet. As far as downtime goes... unless your ISP is down, you're at fault for any downtime of your server, especially if you're an idiot like me and accidently wipe out your entire harddrive containing every website you ever created on it (plus MUCH MUCH MUCH more). Anyway yeah...I like that method, though it also means if something breaks, you gotta figure out how to fix it.

...and for the people who don't have the time, money, knowledge, etc to do that, I would recommend paying to host your stuff somewhere. It's much more reliable and you're usually not nailed with policy changes every other day.

I guess I am the opposite of you guys, learned a little bit of programing, but wasn't interested. In high school I learned networking and then became a microsoft certified network administrator. But then I went to college and became an engineer, so I don't use my certification. But its nice to know I have a back-up plan if needed.

I'd like to host my own site myself too since I have DSL. The
thought of having a computer running 24/7 sucking juice and
those damn noisy fans just doesn't do it for me. I think pacbell
is hard core on cracking down on people with home servers
though from what I hear.

I don't see what the big deal is about having a home server as long as you're not using more than your alotted amount of bandwidth. I guess it's just cuz they can make money from you by making you host with THEIR services...greedy bastards...

A lot of ISP's I heard will allow it if you tell them you're doing it as a learning experience and not doing it to profit off of.
