got a 93 dakota with a 3.9l. It starts just fine, and dies right away. It will stay running if you give it gas, but if you let off it will die. it is also possible to hold it around idle speed, then it will hold idle. It has new spark plugs, and I cant find any vaccum leaks. any ideas?
-thanks guys

Try cleaning your IAC...

Best way to clean it in my opinion:
1.) Remove tb from engine
2.) Remove IAC motor (don't lose the o-ring on it)
3.) Spray the tip of the IAC plunger with carb cleaner and using an old rag, gently wipe all the carbon off the tip without twisting or pushing on the plunger. It'll ruin the IAC motor.
4.) Spray out the IAC port in the throttle body and clean it out really well with the rag. Might as well clean your entire throttle body and get all the carbon off it (throttle blades mostly).
5.) Make sure you completely dried the tb and reinstall the IAC motor (put a lil oil on the o-ring before you put it in).
6.) Reinstall the throttle body and don't forget to use a new tb gasket (Cost me like a buck something at Advance Auto Parts).

if the iac is working correctly and the problem pesists, i would check timing and idle set screw,
which is hidden from the factory. normally the ecu would correct this or an check engine light would illuminate.

It sounds like you could have a bad sensor. I just had to replace my pickup sensor in the distributor and the crank position sensor because of the same. I some had some corosion on the contacts and made the sensor/s go bad. Fortunately I caught them before I had completely lost them and could afford to get them done. All said and done it was about $300 for both installed. Get a diag on her and see if anything comes up.....

Or just a clogged pcv? from when i went from dino

GB2000 post should correct your idle problem.

Also check for stored codes before you tear into it. If the engine runs rough after the cleaning, reset the PCM & it will run normal.

Been there, done it, has run fine since!
