Message:
I have an 87 3.9L and when merging on to the highway it has a hard time getting to 70 I have to press the gas almost to the floor to get it up there.

P.s. does anybody have any good mods for an 87

have you tried a tune up?
advanced timing?
intake?
shave heads?
port and polish intake and heads?
ground cam?
double roller timing chain and timing chain tensioner?
increasing air fuel mix set screw?
gear ratios?
air compressor pump removal?
a/c pump removal?
383 engine!
lol
the last one is the most effective!

Check fault codes, and also check catcon. It may be clogged, especially if it's the original.

Check the catalytic converter. If that is clogged, it can cause SERIOUS power loss

Would it solve the problem to remove the catcon?

Illegal and a $2,500 fine - if it's bad, you just replace it with a good one. They're only about $180.

The removal of the cat is only illegal in some states right? Here in good old backwards SC, there are no inspections so its perfectly reasonable and quite common for the removal of the cat to happen.

The catalytic converter is under a different
warranty than the 10/100 they are covered to 100,000 miles under federal emissions standard
so if you are having problems contact the dealer or hit it hard with some power booster that distroy s the cat then take it to have fixed for free OLD TRICK
