Subject: GEN II Check Engine Light
IP: Logged

Message:
This light has been coming on recently in my 1992 Dodge Dakota. Sometimes it will and sometimes not.

I'm not sure what it means? It just says check engine. I see no code.

I searched the forums and only came up with GenIII info.

All I have done is changed the battery out 5 days ago because the old one got drained because of a something that was left on. The light started coming on yesterday.

I don't know if its related, but my truck will start up and rev up to 2000rpm then just come back down and conk out. Its been doing this for the last year or so, though. I still wish I could fix this though.

Thanks

Possible Throttle Position Sensor !
If have voltmeter , turn ignition on only
then probe centre wire of TPS to ground.
TPS is on drivers side of throttle body..
should read about 0.7 volts..
pull throttle on and should see voltage
smoothly increase to about 4.0 volts at max..
For code readout
turn ign On,Off,On,Off,On within 5 seconds
( not too quickly but not too slowly either )
codes will display via check engine light
2 flashes pause 5 flashes = code 25
should end with code 55 ( end of reading )
If you miss , do it again ..
To reset , disconnect battery neg, turn key on and to start for a few seconds then off and
reconnect battery.
See " codes " post for more info
