Subject: Is this the end?

Hey guys, I'm stuck between a rock and a hard place. my truck only gets 16mpg on the highway and with gas prices skyrocketing i don't think i can keep this up. I'm thinking about selling...i hate the thought of it, but i have one other option i am thinking about and i would like your input. What kind of mileage you think i would get if i drop in a rebuilt 318 and what are my projected project costs if i do all my own work? Any help is appreciated...

Try the IAT relocate and Crank Sensor Mod. Try a high output coil with Brand new Autolite Spark plugs gapped at .040 or .045. Try a new K and N air filter, these are all inexpensive and should help mileage. Make sure the air pressure in you tires are at least 30 to 35 psi. Don't idle for long periods of time, plan your trips out better, before you drive, drive like you have put an egg under the gas pedal. Try these first, if you like your truck and dell it and gas prices come back down you might regret it. If your truck is paid for, it's certainly cheaper to pay a little extra for gas.

On the subject of engine rebuilds, I would ask how many miles on your truck? If it's the v6 you would be better off to rebuild that than to put in a rebuilt 318. When was the last time the O2 sensor has been replaced?

I have a Brand new autolite plugs in it now (less than 2 months)and the O2 sensor is less then a yr old. I took a trip to the junk yard today, a 318 and computer i can get for 450. but i would need to rebuild (142000 mi). and my truck to answer your question has 123,000 mi
