Low Oil Pressure Symptoms, what are they?

I recently switched from 10w30 dino, to 5w30 full synthetic.

And now sometimes, especially when parked on a hill, my truck has a hard time starting and idling.

My oil pressure gauge does not work, what’s a good way to measure oil pressure?

Thanks!

I would get a mechanical axillary gage as soon as possible you really need to know your oil pressure. Run don't walk to your parts store.

'98 cc auto /Home brew cold air with K&N,Dynomax, Superchip Tuner, 1.7 RR,, F&B tb. NAPA cap and rotor, 3923 plugs, tps mod, relocated iat, 180 t'stat, Crankshaft sensor mod.,PVI

why do all you guys think switching to something other than the reccomended oil is going to be good for you? leave 10w30 in it.

oil p[ressure wouldnt have much to do with starting and idleing

sic,

you have around 100K miles right?

if so, that oil isnt really gonna do you any good at this point. Your motor is worn in very well and there are probably a bunch of seals not in tolerance. You not only switched to a synthetic oil which is gonna be more "slippery" than conventional, but you decreased the weight of the oil.

You basically switched from "honey" to "water" and the motor might not like it.

With my old ass big block, i started her up with the recommended 15w40 conventional oil (heavy duty). Oil pressure was around 90 psi on warm up and 60 psi on idle... and jumped to 80 on hard acceleration. After putting a few miles on it, i switched to mobil 1 15w50 race synthetic. It would warm up to about 70 psi but after that... 15 psi at best on idle and only jump to 20 psi when hitting the gas. I quickly changed that crap (even though it ran good in my 3.9 w/50k).

one final thing, why is your oil pressure gauge not working?

6.6 Lt. Big Block, 727 TF shift kit, 452 heads, edelbrock 750 cfm, .513/.513 284/300 crower cam, comp cams springs, comp cams pushrods, 1.5 roller rockers, dp intake, mopar ignition, mopar windage tray, dual exhaust w/ 40 series flowmasters, 4.10 gears, coilover drag suspension, approx, 3500 lbs

My gauge is not working because the little needle that moves the orange needle broke so it just sits in the same place.

I am going to get a oil pressure gauge asap and also switch back to 10w30 dino, its cheaper anyways and my engine does have close to 100k now.

does it sound like symtoms of low oil pressure? It still drives like a charm and will idle great after it warms up, just kinda ruff at start-up.

It feels like its trying to stall out all most.
