Subject: Modding a V6

Message:
Hey guys,
I was wondering why some people want to stick a ton of mods on a V6 Dakota and make it LOOK fast... I understand that you want it to look "mean" but why make it look cool if it has no power?? The bark just doesn't match the bite. I mean... If you want it to look cool, at least buy a R/T and mod it so you have power and looks.

Just a thought,
No offense to anyone who has modded a V6.

Hehehehe...because I'm beating R/T's in my V6. (Did that three times at Houston.) ;)

Plus, I don't have the 2000lb max towing capacity of the R/T (mine is twice that) and I have a 5spd...which never was offered in the R/T...allowing me to pick the gear I want...and it stays there without having to buy a shift kit.

Lastly, while the R/T is a nice Dakota with extra options, the 360 in it is the same engine as in the Ram's and Vans...nothing special. That doesn't follow the old Mopar "R/T" tradition. Hell, put a 5 speed in an R/T with the old Pistol-Grip shifter, offer it with the 360 and factory installed R/T Heads (with cam to match) and M1 2BBL intake, and slap some factory headers and a progressive 4bbl TB on that puppy...now THAT would be an R/T in the old tradition. :)

ummm...you have caused offense, seeing as how you're implying that V6 dakota owners only do visual/body mods and not performance mods. so we don't have eight cylinders, so we don't have ridiculas amounts of torque, but we're not fu*#ing ricers here. we don't drive civics with big, pointless wings, and stickers all over (at least not most of us). we all drive kotas here and we're usually all looking to make them faster. personally, i have two, maybe three visual mods, a toneau cover(if you can even count that as a body mod), headlight and taillight covers, and custom grill inserts. as for performance, i have an intense performamce intake, dynomax custom dual exhaust, apr crank pulley, taylor 8mm wires, 3923 plugs gapped at .042, tires, 180 t-stat, and a V8 TB on the way... so am i just making my truck "look mean" or am i actually doing things to improve my trucks performance? you be the judge buddy, since i'm obviously not worthy enough to judge performance of anything seeing as how i don't have a V8 :sarcasm evident:

well toxic13 small piece of advice, chill man all you are doing is pissing people off.

Well Wade if you want to make your 6cyl dakota look fast, put some lower profile tires on in (ie. 65 series) a tonneau cover and some cool light and grill covers, usually gives it a nice racing edge. BEWARE you will have every single honda on the planet wanting to race you so if you do these mods, especially the tires cause it lowers the truck, make sure you have the preformance under the hood to spank his ass good cause it is embarrasing to see a honda beat any other vehicle

rob, if you read his post again, wade isn't asking for advice on making his truck "look mean" or "fast". he's asking why those of us with V6's would do that to the truck when "there isn't the performance to back it up". i'm not trying to piss people off, i'm just trying to help people like wade understand why we do mods to our V6's and what kinds of mods we do (since he seems to have missed that somewhere).

Rob,
My v6 has a 3/4 drop, 255/55/17s, Cowl induction hood, fender flares, Tonneau cover with small spoiler (molded into the tonneau, similar to the Nascar Trucks), SpeedGrill, and few other sweet visuals. I have alot less people trying to race me now. The truck looks like its moving 100mph parked, according to few folks who passed by it the other day. A buddy of mine with a 13 second Stang said he would think twice about racing my truck if he didn't know what was under the hood. I do have performance mods for the ones that get brave.
Actually, I had a new Cougar v6 get brave with me this morning. I was behind him going up a steep and long grade. I stuck to his ass like glue, which he was not expecting. I would have passed him, but the traffic in the other lanes prevented this from happening.

Jesus Christ man,
I wasn't referring to everyone. If YOU read my post again you will see that I said SOME people who drive V6 Daks try to make it look mean... I know that you can make a V6 fast, but people around Evansville don't seem to understand... They just stick a kit on the truck and some decals and think it is cool. Then my dad beats them with his Honda Accord!! HAahhAhhA Its pretty sad...

I see where he is going. There are a lot of cars or trucks that have a great deal of body work and nothing to go with. Ex: a V8 droped with more crome and leather than a hore house and a 1 1/2 tail pipe. My guess is that Wade wants more bite than bark and looks. Hauls a$$ but looks like hell. I was like that until I smoked a 8 with a 6 Hehe haw haw HAAAAAAAAAAAAAW HA HA HA!!!!!

Love my V6 but just so everyone knows, my wife has a new V6 Cougar. Bone stock it will whip almost ALL V6 trucks unless they are seriously modified. My wifes car runs a 15.7 bone stock.

Last time I checked, the V6 got better mileage than the V8. I suppose you could bring a V8 within those MPGs, but why the overkill? The V6
does everything I want it to do. 3.92 gears pull the trailer I want to pull. The engine goes as fast as I would like given it's a club cab 4x4 with a high center of gravity. If you want absolute power and performance, you'd better move on to another model altogether. I don't get your question/logic. If the question is isn't the V8 a better all around package, you'd better factor in price as well. Having a V8 vs. a V6 just isn't that important to some of us. Given the price of gas I prefer the latter.

I have alot of people think mine goes fast, and I have installed a 2/3 drop, 255/50/vr17 rim/tires combo and that was it, I was like, um no, I wanted 17's, some good tires, and it looked stupid with a huge gap in their, so I dropped it. Now that it got closer to being outta warranty, I'm moding then engine (today it went outta warranty ;) ) So that I guess it has a little more then just looks. My s10 will still run circles around it though. Not as easy, but will.

I've got headlight covers, HAD taillight covers(dang things blew off right when GTS went into hiding.) Lund Ext window covers. Duals with 3x22" tips. Treadbrite bed caps all around. Harley-
Davidson stuff every where. As far as the engine. K&N Drop in and a hose, wire kit. I'm a poor college kid. I can't afford the high cost of headers, S/Cs, turbos and can't afford to blow a motor on Nitrous. So if you want to know why. Body stuff is a lot cheaper than engine stuff.

Now as for people with $3000 rims on their slow daks. That's just stupid.

I think you kids have missed a valuable life lesson here.

Me being a diehard performance not looks fan, I have never cared totally about how a vehicle looked (to a certain extent) but more so how fast it was.

So with all that being said let me tell you in my opinion anyone who downs anothers vehicle for any reason is the one at fault.

"To each his own" and "live and let live".

My .05 worth. Scott

sean, that post is almost three years old. And the stampede didnt replace the R/T, it is a totally different package (ground effects) that could be put on any of the motor combinations... plus it was offered even when the R/T was still being produced.

6.6 Lt. Big Block, 727 TF shift kit, 452 heads, edelbrock 750 cfm, .513/.513 284/300 crower cam, comp cams springs, comp cams pushrods, 1.5 roller rockers, dp intake, mopar ignition, mopar windage tray, dual exhaust w/ 40 series flowmasters, 4.10 gears, coilover drag suspension, approx, 3500 lbs
