I'd like to pull some extra power from my 2001 Dakota V6. I'm looking for reasonable priced ways to do so.

I hate to be the one to point this out, but a cold air intake alone, especially on a V6, will not add 25 extra hp... By itself anyway ://

Bassically cheap mods are ---

mod tps
relocate incoming air temp sensor
cold air intake --- if lucky to find one off of ebay --- home made mandrel tubing, cone air filter, "inside and outside airfilter ellimate", ussually aluminum, connects to air hat and not original plastic junk wrinkle tubing
then of course exhaust --- high flow cat, "carsound", then muffler
advance timing to +3 degrees
advance fuel sync to +3 degrees
electric fan
underdrive crank pulley

These will be the most cheap mods you will ever do and can find most of them at krcperformance.com or some canadian website that I kinda can'ts remember the name to...

Then if you really have some money we can talk other stuff... I personally have right around or rather just a touch over $5000 in my engine, bypass Amsoil oil system "which I still have to order", exhaust + drilled and slotted brakes... BUT $1200 of that is new sensors, hoses, seals, and gaskets from the local dodge place...

AND I might be lucky enough to be getting around 250 to 275 on the engine...

Wish I was lucky enough to be getting a little over 300 on the engine like Larry, and he's really the one you need to be talking to about your extra hp wants for cheap... He can even talk you through step by step of what you need to do while your degreeing in everything...

Hope this will help a little more...
Greg

If u want a cheap intake, go to a local exhaust shop and have them custom bend a tube for you. Just get some couplers, clamps and a filter and you'll be set. Mine set me back about 10 bux. I already had the filter.

Larry is the best one to explain it and is actually the one who pointed it out to me... All your doing is advancing your distributor to +3 degrees... Distributor on these things has nothing to do with timing anymore... Only acts as a spark transferer... The fuel syncronization is the timing in which your injectors are fired or opened and closed back off... If it's +3 you'll ussually have a little better off the line and top end gains, but if go too much you just spray gas either back up into the intake or wind up not burning all of your gas and most will wind up going out the exhaust...

You can go to Larry's how to on cam degreeing to learn out how to degree in your fuel sync...

Thanks Greg. I'll ask Larry about it soon. I received by Crower 1.7s in the mail yesterday and will soon be installing them and a V8 TB. I've been looking into the KRC crank sensor mod and never heard about the fuel timimg mod. Makes sense if the spark gets there 3 degrees sooner, it would be good to also get the fuel there 3 degrees sooner as well. I haven't even been able to spot the crank sensor in the bell housing yet. How long did it take you to do; was it easy to get at? I read a previous thread you had with Larry while you were doing it. Also how did your electric fan mod work out? Was it worth it? I'm thinking about removing my clutch fan and just adding a additional thermo control to the existing electric. Alternatively I'll mount an additional large electric in the existing shroud; your experience? Thanks for your assitance.

I have a ported and polished 2000 v6 tb for sale that I do not need anymore. I had it on my dakota with an intake and exuaust and it really made a nice increase in power. I am selling the throttle body for $150 and I will ship for free.

Kurt - Crank Pos Sensor is visible
passenger side just down and to pass. side
from dist. two bolts and of course two wires
in harness coming away from..
Just make sure you use a file to do the
slotting , or as Larry previously suggested
buy a new replacement = more steel in the
mounting 'flange ' = easier to mod

I actually never got around to the electric fan mod and doubt I will until later this Summer maybe??? The crank sensor like ? pointed out is kinda in a hidin place right behind the passenger head... Some have had to take their wheel off to get to it, but I did mine while I had the heads off and used a dremel to cut out the groove area... Only took about 5 minutes and you simply mark back 3/8" and vut it out...
