Bought the V6 Dakota Club Cab in '97. Had the A/C Evaporator changed in Feb 01. Had the A/C service several times since looking for leak. Just had it serviced again (Apr 04) and it has a slight leak in the evaporator.. Any Technical Service Bulletins or other information on Dodge's Air Conditioner System?

The Chrysler products of the mid-to-late 90s were noted for thin-walled evaporators which leaked. It's definitely a large problem of which Chrysler is well aware, but I don't know how much luck people have had with Chrysler making good on it. I've heard talk of secret warranties.

Thank you for the information. I now have some knowledge of the problem and will have a talk with the dealer who sold me the truck and also replaced the evaporator.

Chyrsler evaporator coils are questionable, the one went out on my 2000 Jeep Cherokee Sport last summer, luckily still under warranty or it would have been a very expensive item to fix. Part alone was over $300 and six hours of labor. My father-in laws 2001 Ram's AC just bit the dust, I bet its the same. Last year I converted my '91 Dakota to R-134a, been over a year and still works great, R-12 evaporator coils are hopefully better (thicker).

HI, I'm allen, and I just bought a DODGE dakota 97, and I got the evaporator broken. Does anybody knows how to take it out. I have already taken out the desk, but there are some screws that I can't take out because I can't reach them.

Can't say for certain, but probably some bolts holding the case to the firewall, you'll need to remove them from the engine bay. Also disconnect the A/C lines and coolant lines. Need to drain coolant and evac a/c system first.

Haynes manual should show, probably be listed under heater core. That is how it is listed in the haynes manual for my 95.
