Subject: Larry: valve springs?
IP: Logged

Message:
Larry,
Shortly I will be installing crower 1.7s and V8TB. Should I upgrade to MOPAR RT valve springs while I am in there? I am not a high RPM user, I do not race people, I'm installing the 1.7s for power and increased drivability. I was told the stock spring seat pressure is about 90lbs and that it would be better to go to about 130lb. Your thoughts are greatly appreciated.

On a high millage motor, especially when increasing the lift you will want to upgrade the springs for safety. The mopar rt springs need the mopar retainers and keepers to go with them.

No need to replace the stock springs unless you
go with a lift of .500 or bigger

stock cam with 1.7's is aprox .460 over stock .432

I have put them in many trucks with over 100,000
and never had a problem.

You should add some cold air to maximise the gains
from the rockers and TB

Thanks Larry! I have an intake and flowmaster already. I think I'm going to do the timing mod soon as well.

Hater, I very much appreciate your polite and constructive comment. Many will agree with your opinion on the vlave springs.

How many miles are on the motor? Even though the stock springs are supposedly good for .500 lift, on a motor with high milles that you plan on hotrodding or pushing hard I would reccomend (agree with hater??? lol) upgrading the springs. even if just for piece of mind. The MP r/t units are much more substancial springs than the oem ones.

50K miles. I only ocassionally wind it up getting on the freeway....but the last thing I need is valve train mayhem. Will putting the MP RT springs increase lifter/cam wear from the additional spring pressure?
