If it is an older cd player it may be the laser. Some older players can't read the cd-r and rw's. But it sounds to me like the laser is off the track just a bit. If you can open it up you maybe able to adjust it. Then of course it could be dirt, on the lens or the disk. Good luck.

Hello...I was reading this message thread and had the same problem with my cd player in my 98 Dakota as well. I like to burn my own cd's, but when I tried to play them in the truck, I kept geting an error. Insert a store bought cd, everything was fine.

What I did was bought a can of compressed air and a cd player cleaner disk. Sprayed the inside of the cd player, then took the cd cleaner disk, inserted and listened to the boring person talking about how my system was getting the best clean it could. After that, no more problems. Hopes this helps you.

I put a CD Player out of a 1999 Dakota in my 1991 and it sounds a lot better than the Pioneer that I had in it that I got tired of fooling with problems I had with it. This Chrysler CD Player randomly plays burnt CDs and is not limited to certain brands or burn speeds. I have a CD Lens Cleaner but was afraid to use it because it has the small brushes on it and was afraid to use it in a car CD Player because I didn't know if it would get stuck in there. Would I be able to use the lens cleaner I have or is there a special one for cars?

Thanks in advance for the help
