Put the Goodyear Gator belt on the 3.9 '01 CC today. Followed the diagram, pretty sure everything is correct. However, upon the test drive there's a whirring sound at any RPM over idle, similar to that of a car with a turbo. Any ideas what could be the cause? I'm going to double check everything in the morning but I was wonderin if anyone had any ideas of if this was normal for breaking in a belt. Thanks!

You're talking about the serpentine belt, right? If so, check the tensioner assembly and its pulley. Try a stethoscope or listening through a piece of tubing near it to isolate the noise.

That's what I wondered when I posted. I've never had a serpentine belt before, thought the idler would spring back, but it required tugging it back when reinstalling the belt. Don't know if that's normal or if the spring is binding. It isn't broken.

That whirring sound or whatever sounds like the idler pulley isn't fully back in place. Wrench on it some more to make sure.

I just remembered on my 99, there is an inscribed marking where you need to line the idler pulley back up to. Make sure both halves of these lines are together.

If the idler does not keep it tight after you put it back under tension it probably will need to be replaced. I piddled around with mine and did not replace it and wound up having to replace it and the belt.
