Since this seems like a serious question, i will give it a shot...

Well, magnum is just a trademark for the engine. Ford has triton and Chevy has vortec (i think i got those right) most rangers have a 4.0L v6 although some had the 3.0L.
The v6 in your Dakota is 3.9L (239 CID) it’s based off the LA 318 (5.2L) it shares the bore and stroke its just missing 2 cylinders. Don’t hold me to this but i believe the horsepower is 175 (its 175 on my 98) i forget the torque (225?) its a good engine, i have never raced a ranger but i bet it would be a close race although the ranger is smaller and probably much lighter than a Dakota...

www.allpar.com has all the info you will ever need to know on dodge's engines throughout the years

That’s just my .02

You got it right that Ford is Triton and Chevy is Vortec.

Is your dad's v6 in a Ranger or F-150? my dad has an F-150 with a v6. I Believe that their largest v6 is a 4.2l and smallest v8 is 4.6. his v6 has some power, more than i would like to admit. It's not the greatest from 1-20, but after that I would put it up against our v8 (5.9L) Durango. it would be a close race i think, but v8 would win, but over all more power. Hope that helps some, but I have no clue about their v6 in Rangers if that is what he has. Sorry if i rambled on.

Matt

Glad I could be of help. I used to smoke my dad when he still had his 95 f150 (ex cab 5.0L) I still see him from time to time, Now he has a 6.0L Chevy Silverado 2500HD. I hate to admit it, but I’m not going to challenge him to a race with my 3.9 LOL!! But i take solace in the fact that my 3.9 doesn’t sound like a diesel on startup... (Chevy piston slap) ;-P

My father has a GMC 1500 4x4. I have not raced it but I'm sure my Dakota 3.9 could take it. My mother had an Envoy with the 4.2L I6. I don't think my 3.9 would stand a chance of keeping up with it in anything but a really short race.
