I have a 2000 Dakota with a 3.9L and I was thinking about getting one of these underdrive crank pulley's from ASPRacing. See I have a remote start that I like to use in the winter to heat the truck. My question is will I have charging problems with this single pulley. I seen on there website that full charge is @ 900rpm's. I think the truck idles somewhere around 500-600rpm. By using one of these pulley and using the remote start for say 10-15 minutes, will this discharge the battery enough to where I will stall and be stuck?

Thanks

Should not be a problem in that case!
However , if in a lot of stop and and stop and go
city driving in nasty weather where you have
heater fan full blast , headlights On and
wipers going , it could be more of a problem ?!

Here what I emailed to Aspracing and here is the responses listed below....

1)
I am thinking about getting one of these underdrive crank pulley's for my 2000 Dodge Dakota 3.9L. I looked on your website and I believe your company calls for a K060945 or K060950 belt. Is the K060950 belt for trucks with A/C and is the other belt for trucks with no A/C? Also I noticed that to get full charge the motor has to be running @ 900rpm's, I think my truck runs around 500-600rpms @ idle. I have a remote start that I like to use for around 10-15 minutes occassional to heat or cool the truck, remote start disables the radio and doesn't turn on the amp which is 60amp in-line fuse. Will or can I have charging problems with this underdrive pulley installed on my truck??? Let me also mention that I installed a 1000amp cold crank battery last winter. Little better than the stock battery which was somewhere in range of 600amps. And the last question which is, will I really get 10hp and 18ft-lbs of torque for a V6 or V8 since these are used on the 3.9, 5.2 and 5.9L engines or are those numbers for the V8 to look better on your website???

1)Response
It will not charge you battery below 900 rpms. If at idle for a long time you will be discharging the battery. Sounds this pulley is not for you. I will still give 8-10 hp to the wheels. The belt is with A/C pn K060945 or K070855 w/o A/C.

2)
How long is a long time, I'am just talking about 10-15 minutes @ idle. Do
you mean that within that limited amount of time I could discharge
battery???

2)Response
Sure, anytime the truck is not above 900 rpm's the alt is not charging the
battery. It should not kill the battery but it will not be charging.

So, for all of ya that have them could you please tell me if there will be a problem. Seems like from the response heard from ASPRacing that it is not a good idea for my situation....

Changing just the crank pully will not effect your
charging system at all

changing all 3 pullies will

Besides that when the motor is cold it does not
idle down untill it warms up

Get ahold of Sam and get one at a good price

The guy at Aspracing must be another 5 star mech.
LOL LOL LOL

The people they have at these places have no clue
what they are talking about and to see one
recomend you not buy there product makes you
wonder

Well, I went ahead and put the crank pulley on this weekend. Drove the truck about 270 miles and received about 18.5 mpg highway driving around 75-80 most of the time. No real improvement on mileage... Didn't really see a whole lot of difference in performance. Truck seems to charge itself pretty good still, so maybe the truck just needs to learn the pulley. Truck sounds different to me but maybe its just the new belt. These are my mods so far on this 2000 Dakota 3.9L automatic with 86k:

homemaid Cold-air intake
Fastman 46mm Throttle body
Amsoil through differential, Trans, and engine
Underdrive Crank Pulley
Dynomax #17748 muffler
Tonneau Cover

Any suggestions on my next modification???

Probably won't do anything mods for a while, but there's always something to look forward to do in the summer for this gas hog.

GB2000... I'm Indian, so are you saying I don't know anything about my truck? Don't blame my people for taking away "your" jobs, blame yourself for doing a terrible job that they have to send it to foreign places. I don't mean to start beef, I just can't stand racial remarks.

Dickie... I installed a crank pulley (yes GB, I installed it without help from "Indian tech support dudes") and I haven't had any problems. Just try it, you can always take it off if you notice problems.

What the?, I apologize for directing it towards Indians in general. That was pretty racial and I didn't mean it like that at all. What I was trying to say was that the reason the customer service sucks is because of the U.S. outsourcing to other countries for the cheap labor (it's not because we do a terrible job...it's because people in foreign countries work for much cheaper). Those people usually have no experience whatsoever except whatever is written in their reference booklets. The reason I referred to Indians wasn't because I hate Indians, but every time I talk to someone in customer service, it's an Indian guy who can barely speak English and is obviously going straight from a book since I just explained what I understood and where my problem lies and he starts me off like I have no experience whatsoever. Again...I'm sorry for sounding so racist before. It's not like that at all.

I second that. I hate any customer service person that reads from a collection of scripts and has know real knowledge of what they are supporting. Just like when you go to Kragen and you want windshield wipers or something like that and they ask you stupid unrelated questions like what size is your engine and do you have A/C?

Grr.

I have noticed since putting on this underdrive pulley and a new k060950 goodyear gatorback belt the motor kinda makes a funny noise. Like every revolution of motor in the morning chirps until warming up. Moving from a 7 rib to 6 rib belt, would that cause this erratic noise that I never heard before until installing this pulley? Also let me point out that when installing the pulley I used no loc-tite, I torqued each bolt to 20 ft-lbs with a 6-in extension and torque wrench, which Chiltons and Haynes calls for 17-18 ft-lb for our 3.9L's. Anyway, the belt spins straight and fine around all pulleys. What do you guys/gals think I can do to slove my problem with the chirping in the mornings???

Could the chirping be caused by the fact you didn't loctite the bolts and they are doing a little loosening dance? That would explain the chirp and the fact that as the engine gets warm (metal expands) the chirp soon stops.

It also could be your tensioner pulley... they're known to go bad and start squeaking pretty badly. I think a lot of people recommend replacing it whenever you replace your belt, although I didn't when I replaced mine and haven't had any problems yet (now watch it seize up on me in the morning...lol).
