I put the AP3923's in and 180 thermo and reset the computer and put the crank sensor back to the modified position and no ping. It runs great, very nice low end. I gapped plugs at .40. Will running the truck like this cause any premature wear on any sensors (oxygen) or catalytic converter and will it be ok for emissions testing? Why would an actual cold air intake be better than just a K&N replacement for factory? I cant understand why a tube versus the air box would be so much better. Can you explain to us dummies why advancing the timing gives you better gas and performance. Will my mileage be better if I top off with exhaust or should i leave factory on? I'm looking for more gas mileage than performance so if exhaust doesn't matter at this stage let me know. So far i've done brass cap and rotor, crank sensor, 180 thermo, AP3923's, K&N drop in. The IAT eats too much gas and the TPS made the truck to jerky between shifting. They are back to factory. the truck is 02 3.9 5spd rc, 3.55 gears(stock). I appreciate all your help.

check the timing vs HP info on older engines !
It is mostly for emission levels that they retarded....

K&N drop in will work just fine but open the gap
on the AP's to .045

The stock exhaust will be fine untill the intake
side is improved just a low restriction muff is
all that is needed

As I have said many times some trucks do not react
well to the IAT relocate its a mod to try and see
how your truck reacts.

The TPS should be at .7 .75 max on your 02 the
jerky shift will stop after the comp learns the
new setting, it will give you better throttle
response

Advancing the timing gives the motor more power
so it don't have to work as hard to get up to
speed less work less gas means better mileage

Even with all the bolt ons avalible as long
as you have a good cat and all sensors working
properly emissions is not a prob

Even my stroked and ported motor will pass an
emmissions test
