The point is, he's saying it isn't illegal, and it is. Whether you choose to break the law is another issue. As long as you understand that you're doing so, as in your example.

Regarding the EGR setup, he's spreading misinformation on a technical information site. It's important to someone who has that vintage system and needs to understand it or troubleshoot it. If you'd rather take advice that's wrong, hey, go for it. But you'll never know what to trust from him when he's so plainly wrong on this issue and won't admit it.

Larry is one of the few people on this site who has helped a lot of people. So far you have showed up and argued about something stupid. Why haven't you answered anyones questions? Stop making this "technical information" site into a huge argument and just answer technical questions. Your not the only "engineer" on this site. I happen to be a aeronautical engineer. I know that doesn't make me an expert on emissions systems or anything with a car other than its aeodynamics, but even then I won't argue with anyone about aerodynamics. Please just stop the arguments and use your education for something good!

If you read back to my first post on this topic, I do answer peoples' questions. It was asked if there will be trouble passing emissions tests, and the person was given incorrect information. I provided correct information. The person was advised to do something illegal, and was told that it was legal. It is not. Most people would find it helpful to go into an emissions test and not be fined, or fail. Taking Larry's advice put the person at risk of failing. If it were in MA, the person would fail visual inspection immediately.

If you look on the site, you will see that I have posted other helpful information and answers to peoples' questions. Other forums on this site focus on that, instead of simply flaming.

No one ever told them to remove it

READ the post

Not everyone has the money to run out and buy a
new valve and blocking the tube will let them run
there truck untill they can afford a new valve

I was asked a question and answered and also told
them where to get a replacement at a good price

I have also answerd on other posts how to check
the EGR system

Vac supply
Flow test
Transducer tests
back presure test

I have a EGR on my truck always did, I blocked the
tube for a reason, so I could run 14.4@97 on a
sanctioned 1/4 mile drag strip Union Grove and
until I got a replacement transducer that was
bad giveing me a code 32 every 50 100 miles pissed
me off to no end after droping over $6000 into a
stroked motor

And if you read a lot of my post I also recomend
anything that gives you a mil light be repaired
or your comp will never reach peak performance
it effects the learning ability

You are blowing this way out of proportion and
losing respect, I sugest you knock it off and
start helping and stop complaining about the
answers Intense and I gave

Only you can make up your mind on that and become
another asset to this board

Doing that would gain you the respect you deserve
I also have a 4 year degree in automotive
enginering, engine design and aplication have been
buiding hi perf motors for over 30 years owned my
own shop for over 30 years and am now retired but
still hold a 51% ownership in the business only
because the artritis I have keeps me from working
like I used to or I would still be doing it.

All I do now is play with the dodge trucks that
come in so I have something to do

1977 thru 1981 when this stuff was just coming out
remember the lean burn systems

The Automotive indestrys first atempts at
emissions control was a joke and was prone to
failure, over the years it has gotten better
mostly do to computer controled timing and fuel
systems and sensors

There has been no respect to lose, since from the beginning, you and others have just resorted to name-calling. Moreover, all I was doing was helping by providing correct information, that the EGR in 92 has an electrical connection. I wouldn't have complained if the information you gave was correct, and it wasn't. Both the 92 Dakota 3.9 V-6 and my 92 Daytona 2.5L TBI have electrical solenoids on the transducers. So does my dad's 89 Acclaim 2.5L TBI.
The statement that removing emissions controls is legal was also wrong, and could have gotten someone into trouble with the law.

Respect comes not out of insults, but out of consideration for knowledge and willingness to help. So far there have been only insults in response to the knowledge I provided. This just belittles the board and the people posting them.

By the way, if there is no EGR valve on the 96's (and I don't *know* if there is or not), why does Autozone show a part number for it, as well as for 1997?

Are you a LAWYER??????? please if you are give grad school and date of grad, and state you passed bar and bar identification number so I can check it out. otherwise STFU!!

Well all I have to say is you just proved you do
not know anything about the mag engines.

in 1996 the egr was discontinued and no longer
used, you are arguing about something that is now
obsolete on these motors and was discontinued
10 years ago

These are V8 intakes but the same goes for the
V6

1992 to 1995 egr type OBD1

1996 to 2003 non egr type OBD2

but I do know what I own:

92 V-6 Magnum engine
WITH the electrical transducer that you don't seem to be able to see.

"Yes they stopped using it in 96 and up."

"That's why they got rid of them in 1996. Please let me know what the newer cars have to keep them passing since they dont have an EGR."

hmmmmm.....
http://allpar.com/model/ram/dodge/dakota.html

For 2005, the 4.7-liter V-8 was modified to improve fuel efficiency approximately three to four-percent. A new electronically modulated converter clutch (EMCC) allows partial lock-up of the torque converter at low speeds for improved fuel efficiency. Dual knock sensors allow more spark advance while preventing potentially damaging engine knock. Exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) improves fuel economy by replacing some of the incoming fuel-air mixture with inert exhaust gas.

Guess they 'brought it back'.

Ah, ignorance reigns again!

http://www.allpar.com/mopar/emissions.html

"EGR reduces emissions and may increase gas mileage slightly"

"The reason EGR improves fuel economy is because it reduces the engine's pumping losses. For the cylinder to move down on the intake stroke, the piston is working against the intake manifold vacuum. Another way to say it is that the vacuum above the piston tries to prevent the piston from going down. EGR increases the mass in the intake; more mass means higher pressure, or less vacuum. Now the piston has less resistance during each intake stroke, which results in better gas mileage."

damn, go hook up a boost gauge to a N/A motor and see what kinda pressure you get in the manifold.

you have also exploited your ingorance with the "why does autozone have an egr listing for a 1996-1997 dakota?"

the picture you provided shows no proof of anything you have stated. It just shows some spark plug wires, an unhooked harness and a check valve.

remember people; when you argue with bob, you are arguing with an idiot. Dont argue with an idiot. They will bring you down to their level and beat you with experience.
