Subject: Question for AMSOlL Dealer
IP: Logged

Message:
Hey Steve

Based on good words for Amsoil from many people on this site, I intend on switching everything over to Amsoil.

I have a 2000 Dakota with 63k. Please advise on what amsoil products (and part numbers) to use for the following?

-AX-15 5spd transmission
-NV231 transfer case
-3.9L engine
-oil filter
-front and rear diff (open diffs)

Is it realistic to expect any noticeable gas mileage improvements as well? Just curious.

thanks
stu

Question for AMSOlL Dealer - Better MPG
IP: Logged

Message:

The easy answer first, and I'll be back later.

Better MPG Using Synthetic Lubricants

It has been proven by AMSOIL through use of industry accepted fuel economy tests, field demonstrations and as witnessed by most of our customers, that switching to synthetic oils and lubricants can (and does) improve fuel economy (mpg).

Tighter government regulations and increases in engine manufacturers’ demands are calling for more fuel efficient lubricants. Amsoil Synthetic Motor Oils reduce friction and drag better than petroleum oils, resulting in significant fuel economy increases. In a 1.2 million mile demonstration, AMSOIL Lubricants showed a 4.5% increase in gas mileage. Other tests have shown increases of as much as 15% under certain weather and driving conditions. Yet, because every vehicle is different, as are driving habits and conditions, it is difficult to accurately project an exact increase.

Though it has been demonstrated that switching to synthetics does increase MPG in most cases, I am not a believer in testimonials whereby someone states HUGE MPG increases when switching to synthetic lubricants.

Allow me to quote Larry of J & J Auto

"My 1995 4X4 is pulling 21.8 to 22.4 on the highway.

I run all Amsoil synthetics and a Extang tuff tonno III cover The oil gave me 1 mpg and the cover around 1.5 mpg - before this my best was 19 mpg."

Measuring MPG

If you fill up at a warmer part of the day one week compared to the previous week you can sometimes see a huge fluctuation in MPG just based on that.

Also, the pump may have stopped pumping sooner this week compared to last, making it "seem" like you used less gallons of fuel.

I have also observed a MPG increase when switching grades (5w-30 compared to 10w-40).

In conclusion, switching to synthetics (in most cases) does lead to an increase of MPG.
