Subject: 318 or 440???

I am going to be putting either a 440 or a 318 in my 89 Dakota. I just want some opinions on if 440 is just to much power or if i could still put the 440 in it without blowing a rearend in my truck every week.

440 and put a 8 3/4 rear in there. It will match up to the same bolt pattern as your front hubs.

Sure why not

A 500 indy crate motor dynos around 475 hp
over 700 with a 671 blower

The set up is not cheap but can be bolted on in
about 4 to 6 hours

You would need some nice slicks and full length
ladders or it would just burn the tires off LOL

If you are going to put a gas hog in there, why not put the bigger gas hog?

not only is it possible but I saw a kit by powerdyne or was it the other aftermarket kit guy? anyway, the whole thing was a bolt on designed for daks with 318/5.3 engines. either jegs or summit had it in a 2 year old catalog, might still carry it.

Wouldn't a 440 just make it better though. I mean come on a 440 or a 318 we know what has more power but what sounds the best?

440 of course... You can never have too much power as long as your driveline components match it :)) I built my v6 for power and fuel mileage... Your 440 will get about 7 to 10mpg on good days, but will rip up the pavement... You may choose the 318 for simple fuel mileage reasons...

The big block, beleive it or not, will be a little cheaper to build then the small block, but fuel mileage... I really don't know which is why your choosing...
