Well I had a friend cut off both precats on my 2001 3.9L dakota. I lost bottom end definatly and im not really happy with that right now. It does rev quicker but I still wish I had that bottom end back. About 3 months from now a custom turbo kit will be installed on my truck so im not that worried about the whole situation. Before then, can I do anything to regain that bottom end that I lost???

Short of reducing the pipe size from the cat back, or putting them back on, I don't think so. The 3.9's need and like back pressure. That is typically why when people put duals on, they reduce the pipe size to help with the needed restriction

Hey pbxr how dis that do it yourself bed liner turn out for you?. I have a single in duel out muffler. The pip going fromt he y pipe to the reignator is 3 inches. Would it be better to put a smaller pipe inline?

The rollon stuff is good, I suggest two coats of it, and make sure you prep your bed ie: sand and sand and sand. YOu have to make sure you knock off the clear coat. I think all in all it took me a little over 2 hours to do.
My 3.9 has 2.5" pipe all the way back to my dynomax, single in single out. Do have any check engine codes or lights? When you took out the pre-cat, did it have an 02 sensor?
Also do a search for headers, and exhaust. There are a ton of posts regarding the 3.9's and backpressure.

The sensor were put right back in the pipe. Today I tripped a code after having the cats off for 2 days. I used my superchip tuner to take the code out so no problems so far.

That 3" pipe is too big, take it from someone who knows. 3" is fine if supercharging, don't know if that holds true for turbocharging as well.

Uh I will keep clearing them with my superchips tuner. Once again no worry because I wont need them when the turbo is installed.

Troy, I'd suggest maybe placing a smaller pipe from Cat to muffler. This should help with the backpressure issue, especially since you have a single in dual out.
Don't mind some of the sporatic vagrants floating around here. We all had to start somewhere.
