The voltage drops when the headlights are on and the vehicle is in park, it stalls at stoplights but the radio stays on, shifting the vehicle from park to reverse to drive it will stall. No fuel mileage drop on highway. From a stop, engine rpm has to go up to 2,000 before car will move forward, then it lurches forward. I think problems are due to alternator. this is a 94 dakota, 160,000 miles. anyone know what the amp is supposed to be on an alternator for truck with air conditioning, manual locks and windows?

not sure of why stalls but 2000 rpm before moving indicates very bad torque converter or transmission about to totally fail. maybe bad tranny causing stall?
"it stalls at stoplights but the radio stays on,"
this is normal as far as the radio staying on when stalling, radio continues to run off battery.
"shifting the vehicle from park to reverse to drive it will stall." indicates a transmission problem or a bad Automatic Idle Control Motor that when working right should prevent this from happening.
these are just some of the places to start looking.
