I put on the V6 tb that I ported and cut down... I wasn't real satisfied with the end result, but considering I'm not real good at working on stuff, it definitely could have been worse. I just wish I'd have taken a lil more time and effort on it when I was grinding stuff down. At least it works okay though.

Following the tb switch, I changed out my stock Champion plugs and put in Autolite AP3923's gapped @ .040 (I hope that was correct). I must say I hate zip ties and I hate the location of the spark plug for cylinder 5 I think (top right when looking toward the front of the truck). I gashed the hell out of my hand on a stupid zip tie when the first plug broke lose and decided after that to wear some nice thick gloves the rest of the time. Still was murder on the hands. I have cuts and bruises all over me. lol.

I also changed my stock thermostat with a 180*F thermostat. Removing the old gasket material was a real pain in the arse. I didn't think I was ever gonna get it off.

I reset the pcm after doing all those and started it up, let it run a few minutes. Shut it off, started it back up, let it run a few minutes (both times never touched the gas). Then I shut it off, started it once more and gave it some gas to make sure it'd idle after revving it up. I went inside to clean up, came back out and went for a drive. Before I left though, I tried to reset my clock (which had started at 12) and it wouldn't change. My time and trip has reset, but my programmed radio stations were all still there. I unhooked the negative battery cable and held the key in the start position for 1 minute so that shoulda made sure everything had reset. Any idea what the deal is with the clock not wanting to set and the radio stations still being programmed (although I have no problem with that...lol)? I guess if all else fails, I'll just go out and reset it at midnight/noon.

So now the mods are:
single in/dual out exhaust
edelbrock 10" round air cleaner w/ K&N filter
Ported Holley V6 throttle body
Autolite AP3923 plugs gapped @ .040
Removed rubber flap
180*F thermostat
S-bolt "mod"

Oh yeah...and a steering wheel cover (15hp gain right there).

Near future mods:
Brass cap/rotor from Napa
Spark plug wires
new brake rotors/brake pads
flowmaster 40 (single in/dual out)
tonneau cover
And last but not least...I'm gonna remove that damn middle seat/center console as soon as I have a place to work on the truck where my dad won't see me removing the seats or any other major parts.

Wow...I didn't mean for this to be so long. Sorry guys.

Josh

josh, i have done everything you have done w/ the exception of the air filter. i'm still running a stock (soon to be modified) air box. 1 thing that i noticed most was probably the crank pulley i installed. my 'lil 3.9 seems to rev a little faster. a 3.9 in a QC w/ a 5 spd man. will never be fast but, it has a lot more torque with the little i have done. now, if i could ever get time to install the 1.7rr Crowers i have!

oh, you can get a borg warner brass cap & rotor @ o'reilly's if you can't get NAPA.

Good work Josh. I have cut my hands not only on the zip ties, but on those darn heat shields as well lol. And the thermostat that was supposed to be easy... it was hard enough getting to the bolts let alone removing them. Don’t even get me started on the installation :-P

Spark plugs, .040 should be fine. Just give them about 100 miles or so then pull one and see how it looks. I run mine at .044 because i have an aftermarket coil, and it runs fine with nice tan tips.

About the radio thing, i think as long as your trip reset you should be ok. I guess you can reset it again and see what happens.... i don't know, i have an aftermarket stereo.

Btw, is your truck running any better? How’s the tranny acting, and did that leak go away for good?

Just my .02

Absolutely wonderful....my router fried this morning so I have very limited internet til I get a new one.

Anyway... the tranny still is acting up a lil I think. Not positive, but I'm sure I'll find out soon enough. It didn't overrev though when I took off yesterday. I think I need to set the voltage better on the tps sensor. I got a feeling it's a little low, but I don't have a multimeter at the moment so i can't check it. The leak did go away for good...or at least it WAS gone. Knowing my luck, messing with the thermostat housing and stuff will prolly have another leak started....lol. I'll be out of town the next few days so it may be after Easter before I am posting normally again.

sounds like some good mods, and the best part.....very little money used.
How does the truck run after the mods you just made, better or not really.
I don't usually bang my hands when changing the plugs, I use alot of extensions that I found at work....might as well use them for something.

I got a problem maybe you all could help me with.
I went mudding a while back and got sand mud...not mud..all in my engine compartment. and it sucks. its just sticks to everthing and the only way to get it off is to rub it off. I also got that stuff inside the area the wire boot goes..how would I get the sand out of there, I thought just leave the spark plug in there, take the boot off and spray water in there, and then hit it with some copressed air from an air compressor. good idea....as far as the rest of the engine, I guess I'll just have to rub it down.

I used some Castrol Engine Degreaser for my 94 Dakota. It dissolves possibly too much of anything it gets into contact with. The Dakota engine is perfectly clean, but on my 92 Mustang, the Castrol pulled the protectant off of my shiny, polished aluminum valve covers. Don't use that stuff unless you have factory painted valve covers/breather, etc. And then have a water hose/sprayer handy to blast that stuff off within 30-45 seconds of spraying-it's that potent!

Not sure if it's much better or not yet...I've only got around 20 miles on it since I reset the computer. I'll let ya'll know when I've got a couple hundred on it.

Every day is a good day to work on the Dak. And it's never a complete day unless you cut/gash your fingers/hands/arms drawing blood.

All you guys working on your dak's consider getting an MSD6a. Consider getting a good set of performance plug wires and after market coil made by MSD or accel. I know that MSD and Accel both make direct bolt-up units. Then you can open up the gap on you trucks to .060, you will notice a big difference in performance.

The MSD6a raises the input voltage from 12 volts to a peak voltage around 400 volts. With the blaster ss coil and msd super conductor wires and ap3923's gapped to about .060 you should see go solid gains of about 10 horses across the board. I have also noticed that since I put the MSD system on my truck, the oil dosen't turn as black as quick as it did before. I not sure if this is a sign of more complete combustion, but I think might be.

0-60 i beat him by a lil more than a half a truck
length...and he got off the line just a hair better
than me...!
