The parts store quoted $29 each for front rotors, my truck is a 2wd, does this price sound about right? I am familier with RWD chevy cars having the bearings contained in the rotors, and this price qoute sounds a little cheap for all that. If you've replaced front rotors on a 2wd dak, let me know what you paid, thanks.

Thats about right for low end rotors. I paid a little bit more for lifetime replacement warranty rotors from Oreilly with rabestos pads. They are kinda skwaky when cold or wet but perform well.
No bearings in these rotors, they sit right on the hub and the caliper holds it in place. Very easy to change, make sure you pick up a torx ratchet head(torx 45 i believe) to remove the caliper slide bolts.

Do a search for "brakes" or "rotors" on here and spend some time reading. There are a few how to's posted for help.

thanks marlow, that's what I needed to know. I know how to do brakes, I also read a couple articles on here, and am aware of the required T45 socket. I just wasn't sure if the "easy off" rotors were only for the 4wd, no one seems to specify. My father is eventually handing me down his '01, and he wants me to do his brakes this weekend, I told him he'd need to buy bearings and seals, guess he'll have some stuff to return. Maybe I can catch him before he buys them. -Randy

You might want to tell him to go ahead and get the AIMCO Extremes from Auto Zone... They're drilled and slotted, but are suppost to be heat treated heavy metal guaranteed to never warp and that's what the main problem with these Dodge rotors is and they wheigh almost half again as much as the stock rotors even though they have all of the metal cut out of them... The only draw back is they're "after taxes and all" right at $90 apiece... So look at $180 just for the rotors... I got these and went with the stock replacement pads since they were a kinda inbetween pad of the lifetimes and the regulars and they lasted for 80,000 miles and still looked like you could put that many more miles on them... As far as looks goes, even with the stock wheels, their still nice to stare at :))

I'd be scared at rotors costing only $29 each. I don't see that part lasting long.

Just a followup: that was the easiest thing I've ever done in my life. The $29/pc. rotors seemed to be good quality and the most time consuming part was getting the wheels off. I bled the brakes while I was down there and the truck stops great. I found another problem seperate from the brakes, so I'll start another post. Thanks for the help.
