I have seen a few posts on here about the 5.2/5.9 K&N FIPK (#57-1517-1) being able to be put on a 3.9. I have an 02 v6 auto dakota and i was wondering if this is actually possible and if anyone has done it with none or just slight modification.

57-1509 definitely fits on the 99 3.9 (although only listed for
the 5.2/5.9), I believe the 1517 model
allows for the cruise control interference by relocating it

Is the 99 set up the same as my 02? So should it work? Anyone?

Sorry i forgot to thank you for the info you gave me. I'm also looking for any other info someone can offer. I'd like to know if anyone has tried this set up on a 02 or newer dakota. Thanks

Without seeing an underhood pic of your truck I don't know what changes they made. Tell you what I have a pic of my K&N FIPK on my 99, take a look at it, if your engine compartment has the same layout and there doesn't appear to be any interference I would say it would have to fit. My site is www.mark-world.com/dakota just click on pictures and scroll down a bit.

I put an airaid intake on my 2003. I picked the airaid over the k&n because the intake tube is metal not plastic. For the airaid intake you use the factory air hat and it bolts to exsisting studs. Install took about ten minutes.

You know metal gets hot and stores heat and would heat the
air going through it?

if im correct the airraid is a short air intake. meaning it does not extend out to the front of the engine bay. so most of the time ur just suckin in hot air, i would not have grabbed the airraid, but to eachthere own. keep tuning

Too poor for the cowl induction hood, but it's on my to-do list.

...of course so is an NX nitrous kit, supercharger, and too many more "dreams"...lol

I would say there is still a bit of a performance gain due to it bringing in more air (the K&N filter helps as well), but I dunno bout gas mileage. I'm sure if I had a cowl induction hood, I'd be feeling a much better gain though. I think Greg posted earlier about the air cleaners that sit right on top the tb and he said something like it performed as well as a CAI, but the CAI got much better gas mileage...or something like that. I may be wrong though...
