My Dakota is a '94 3.9 liter and my fuel gauge is broken. It just fluctuates back and forth. Any body know how much it costs to fix this problem and whats involved.

Damn Shell or similar gas !
The additive they are / or use to use
corrodes/rusts the sender .
Chrysler had info last year on this problem .
Problem is actually type of material/or lack of
which Chrysler uses for the sending unit..

I had the same problem with my '98 and all I had to do is replace the sending unit, not the entire fuel pump. I would check with your local dealer to see if the sending unit is available for your year. Mine only cost $40.

I have a 93 and I was able to find a sending unit online for $50. I think that it would've just been better if i would've stick to the tripometer because it was a pain to drop the tank and swap it out.
Gerry, when you put in the new fuel pump, did you put in a new sending unit? Also when i did my sending unit, i made sure that the wires connected where nice and tightly connected.

steven- yea i work at napa and the only way i found the fuel pump for my truck was the whole assembly. i checked all connections and they didnt not look messed up so we just dropped it in and the gauge still doesnt not work. i heard it was just a fuse but i cant find the diagram for the fuse box under the dash. i just hope its not a wire or somethin worse
