Trying to replace the timing chain and install a new tensioner but have already hit a speed bump. How in the HELL do I get the viscous fan off. The four bolts that hold the large water pump pulley to the water pump are removed. Its still spinning. I can't get the friggin fan and clutch off for anything. Do I need a puller on it and if so, how am I supposed to accomplish that miracle. Its all apart in my driveway so any reply right about now would help. Thanks a lot.

Depending on where you are at in the process:

- The huge nut right behind the pulley for the waterpump will unscrew. If you have all of the other components still on the engine and the serpentine belt is still installed, you might be able to break that nut free. (the belt will hold the pulley in place.)

- If you removed everything, then you will probably need to use a strap wrench to hold that pulley while you break that nut free.

I believe that the big nut is 1 1/4"

Pulley bolts are out, pulley is also off but I guess I needed to take the large nut off. Damn it. I guess I'm back to reinstalling the pulley and the belt and going from there.
